What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Experiencing the recent floods has been devastating for me, as it feels like all the progress I've made has been washed away. The loss of my one-acre maize farm, household utensils, and some of my livestock, including one goat, has left me feeling deeply saddened. I can only hope and pray that such a calamity won't strike again in the future.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the past six months, my source of joy stemmed from a fruitful farming season. I cultivated maize on my one and a half acre farm, yielding exceptional results. Selling the harvest to Kenya Seed brought in KES 120,000, from which I retained KES 80,000 as profit after accounting for expenses. With this income, I purchased four goats and settled the fee arrears for my son's secondary school education. The satisfaction of clearing his fees and acquiring livestock for our family's future needs filled me with immense happiness.
What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I've been eager to delve into the bull fattening business due to its lucrative nature, and now, with the upcoming transfers, I'm excited to finally realize this ambition. My strategy involves saving the second transfer until the third arrives, laying a strong financial groundwork for the venture. I plan to invest KES 90,000 to acquire four bull calves at KES 20,000 each, with the aim of selling them at a profit of at least KES 5,000 each within six months through diligent management. Despite encountering setbacks in the past, such as urgent fee arrears, my enthusiasm for the business remains steadfast, especially given its less physically demanding nature, which aligns well with my age.
