How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have a plot of land in the nearby market that I bought a long time ago but I have not been able to build residential houses that I wanted to built and rent them out. My goal this year was to take a loan from a bank and complete this project. Achieving this means that I will rent them out, get income and expand my dairy farm.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What GiveDirectly does well is uplifting people's lives through giving unconditional cash transfers. People in the village were able to to transform their lives in ways they would never have by their own.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Although I am a dairy farmer which is pretty a good business, I have never been able to build a permanent dairy shed and feeding area for my ten cows. This is because, I spend most of my the income on medication for my mother in-law who is very old and sickling. The balance is usually spend on paying school fees for my children and I am left with nothing to expand my dairy farm. When I was enrolled in the program, I saw it as a good opportunity to achieve this life long goal that I had desired to achieve for quite a long time. I spend my first transfer, I spend it to construct the structure and spend my second transfer to do roofing and put up other structures that were remaining. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for the financial support because I wouldn't have achieved this were it not for the transfers.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so much happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. It was around 9:00pm and I was at home with all my children. I shared the good news with them and they were so happy as well. We called my husband who was not at home at that particular moment and he was so full of joy to get the good news as well. What made me happy was the fact that I was finally going to accomplish the plans that I had and that is construction of a cowshade to its completion. We had earlier built the cowshade but we had to stop midway having had to divert attention to attend to my ailing mother in law who required a lot of money for her medication. When GiveDirectly transfers came, we prioritized completing the project. We were left with the floor and feeding troughs and finishing. We are so happy that the money helped us accomplish this dream. Tight now we are looking forward to accomplishing even much more with the coming transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the ease that was brought by transfers on my life. I feel like there is a burden that was taken off my shoulders by the fact that I was finally able to build a cow shade to completion. The shade had stalled for quite a while and was slowing down our resolve to practice improved livestock keeping. I look forward to receiving the second transfer to make further investments that will in mprove our living standards
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the entire transfer of KES 55000 to complete a cow shade that we had built half way. We had erected the shade and were left with the floor and feeding troughs. We had had to stop midway because we have a parent that has been ailing and required our undivided attention to attend to. We also spend a lot of money on her medication and this made it difficult for us to build the shade to completion. I now feel very much happy that we were finally able to bring it to completion and already in use. Many thanks to GiveDirectly for the support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We are lucky that my husband and I are in permanent jobs. I capitalize my income on my children's education and I am happy that the two eldest just completed their secondary school. As a way of enhancing our income, I have always had a dream that I invest in dairy farming. Even though milk has a poor price of KES 35 a liter, I find a better option in my community. I had built a cowshed but I could not complete it after I ran short of resources. Receiving this money to me means a complete cow shed. This is a hope that my project can now take off. I will use the all amount to complete this cow shed thus I will be in a position to bring good cows. In the near future, I will have an extra income from milk sales to help me meet my household needs and children's education.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a mother of three and housing other four people both relatives and non relatives. I love my big family since we always help each other in different family jobs. In the last six months, my greatest joy has been from my family. I thank each one for the love, peace, and harmony we have shown each other. This had give me peace of mind to take care of other pressing needs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have five children living under my care all in various schools. I have not been able to pay their fee at once but I find it manageable since our school accepts payment in installments. The biggest challenge I am currently facing is having a sickly mother. I own the responsibility thus paying the amount ofthe0000 is on me. In addition to the financial constraints this brings, the stress of seeing her in pain every day is stressing me a lot.
