How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goal for the coming year and beyond is to grow my business to earn more money. I would like to sell clothes that would be in conjunction with the current business that I run. To achieve this goal, I intend to save money from my dairy business. I am confident that with hard work and dedication, my dream will come true.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
We were informed about where the cash came from and why they chose to give people cash instead of vouchers from the beginning of our enrollment. Every stage was thoroughly explained to us, and they made certain that we were all aware of the organization's program, how it operates, and what we were expected to do. The impact the cash had on our village mates was seen all over the village; people bought water tanks that were previously unattainable, and we were so grateful for the assistance.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had always wanted to open a dry cleaning shop. This is because I saw it as a business that was lacking in our community, and the majority of people traveled to Bomet town in search of the services. As a result, I considered purchasing a dry cleaner worth $350. I had a business plan, but the machine was missing. I used the remaining funds to expand my dairy business. I am a married woman with five children. My husband recently retired, leaving me as the sole breadwinner, relying solely on my business. I am overjoyed and grateful for the impact that GiveDirectly's assistance has had on my life because it has enabled me to unveil my business.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 5.30 pm when I received a call from one of my neighbors who informed me she had received the first transfer from Givedirectly. I immediately checked on my phone and what greeted my eyes was the great news. A message I had been anticipating came in at the right time when I was expecting it. I was thankful knowing that the plans I had were finally starting.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the ongoing construction of a cow shed that is almost into its completion. After a long struggle to obtain enough construction materials that could have completed the construction, I am glad Givedirectly came in to support my dream of owning one.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The construction of a cow shed was on top of my priority list after a discussion with my husband. We had been struggling because we have a small piece of land hence it was difficult for the cows to graze freely. With KES 50,000 we spent on purchasing all the construction materials and inclusive labor. The shed is almost complete. With the adequate feeds that we have planted the cows will feed freely. With the remaining part of the transfer, I used it in buying clothes for myself. I am so grateful to Givedirectly for the support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am passionate about dairy farming because and I have been yearning to refurbish and even expand my dairy shade. At the moment I have a dairy shade that can only accommodate 6 cows leaving another six with nowhere to feed from. By doing this I will have created a spacious place where all my 12 cows will feed from and by so doing I will get good returns. I earn a total of KES 8000 every month from selling milk and all of this money is spent on paying school fees for my 2 children leaving me with nothing. I intend to spend KES 70000 to revamp my dairy shade and as a result of this I will increase milk production. Receiving this money will enable me to expand my dairy farming and this will be a source of additional income
What is the happiest part of your day?
Three months ago my daughter gave birth to a baby boy and we were all happy about it. I named him after my own father and calling him every time is something that gives me so much happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have daughter who is in Laikipia University. She was married but later separated with her husband and she came home with two young children. This became a source of stress and after having a discussion with my husband we decided to take her back to school. I had to take care of her children to give her ample time to study. At my age I feel like this burden is too much for me to bear. Handling two young children is not easy and it has even limited me from the previous tasks I used to engage myself in like dairy farming.
