How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different now in that, I'm so happy because from the time I was born I had never held this kind of money GD sent to me before. I'm also well respected from the village because my standards of living have improved a lot in that I managed to construct a permanent house which is spacious enough. Before getting this money, I lived a very hard life in that all the time I could worry of wind and rain that my house could be blown and swept away by weather agents. They community members also looked down on me because my conditions of living were so bad because the house I slept in was ram-shackled.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly helped me with transfers that enabled me construct a house because the previous house I occupied was so small and could leak whenever it rained. In addition to that GD field team visits recipients from their homes and enroll them into the program therefore speeding up their operations. Secondly, The field team could give more chances to people they did not get at home because they did not want to leave and anyone out of the program. In my view, GD did so well because they helped liberate us from poverty.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I had started constructing a house using the first transfer and when I received the second transfer, I spent it on completing it. I used the money to buy building materials like Bricks, Sand, Cement, Timber, Nails and paid mansions who did the construction. I have saved some money for plastering and flooring the house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Every morning I wake up happy and full of joy because my house is at the roofing level. When the house is complete, I will soon move out of a grass thatched hut and start living in a decent iron roofed house. Nowadays, grass is very expensive to buy and hard to maintain.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I recall on that fateful day, I was woken up by a phone call from one of my relatives informing of the cash transfer messages. I woke up to check my phone and indeed i had also received a mobile money from GiveDirectly. I felt very happy because this money would enable me construct a decent house.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to buy bricks, cement, nails, ventilators, sand and iron sheets for constructing a two roomed house. The house is currently at the roofing level and hopefully it will be complete when I receive the second transfer. I also spent a portion of the cash transfer to pay the builders.
