How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different than how it would have been because I shifted from a small muddy house to a better one. I had lots of challenges back in the days when I was staying in the small house because I was lacking privacy with my children and its roof was old therefore we could be rained on till dawn during the winter seasons. This was one of the worst experiences in my life because I had nowhere to seek shelter since my neighbors' houses were also in bad conditions. However, I never ceased to pray to God to get rid of this burden because it was disturbing my mind. He finally answered my prayers and all is well now. I no longer have to worry about the rains also and privacy. To add to that, I managed to send my children to school through the transfers because some had even opted to drop out of school. This is because the issue of being sent home frequently demotivated them.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in the whole of my location. You could tell this from the way my village mate was happy throughout the process. Also, the fact that each one of us now has a phone has made our lives easier especially in communicating we no longer have to walk from one end to the other to deliver a message. Courtesy of GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying livestock which includes goats. It has always been my dream to own them but I could not afford them because they were quite expensive and because of my low wages I couldn't afford them. In addition to that, I had to clear the huge fee balance of KES 31000 for my son who is in his third year. He is no now studying comfortably without the worry of being sent home to collect fees as he used to do. Also, I brought enough food and decent clothes fir for my children and I to replace the oldines that were not in a pleasant state at all

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the transfer message at a time when I was in trouble of how I would be able to pay fees for my children, I was greatly relieved to see an Mpesa message informing me that I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I felt happy now that I would be able to pay for my children for them to continue with their studies.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to clear school fees for my daughters and they are now comfortably in school. They had huge fee arrears which to me was impossible to clear it on time. With the financial help, I paid for them and they were allowed back to school. I feel relieved because paying for school fees for them on time means I will have ample time to prepare for the next terms fees.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My previous house was very small and my aim was to build a spacious house to accommodate my children. When I received my first transfer, I spent a bigger portion on buying some building materials which include iron sheets and building poles and nails to build the new house. In addition to this, I also paid school fees for my daughter who is in high school. She had huge fees arrears and I cleared the outstanding balance at KES 16000. I spent the remaining amount on buying some foodstuffs and other household items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means quality education for my two children and food security. I'm planning to use 300 dollars to cater for my children's school fees. I'll use a further 200 dollars to buy food for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the evening. This is the time I re-unite with my two beautiful children after a busy day in the farm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life has been lack of money to cater for my children's school fees and also to buy food for my family. My children have been on and off from school because I lack the cash to pay their school fees.
