What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I am struggling with the leaking roof of my grass thatched house. I am planning to build a two roomed house for my family with GiveDirectly's cash transfer and this will cost me about KES 50000. I am privileged to have tailoring skills. With the skills I can feed my family well without struggling. There is no tailoring service in my area and people in the community travel to Marigat town to repair and make their clothes. This can be a good opportunity for me to utilize my skills and tap more income to my family. I intend to buy a sewing machine with KES 30000 and kickstart my business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My son Prince Ledama was schooling in Lamalok Primary school which is a public school. His performance was not impressive and this broke my heart. I had to make a hard decision and transfer him to Joyland Academy in January. I am happy that he is gradually improving.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I do not have any reliable source of income to support my family. I rely on casual jobs to earn a living and buy food for my family. On a good day I am paid about KES 400 per day which is a peanut. This is only enough to buy food for the family. With this income I am unable to build a better house for the family. It is raining season and my grass thatched house is leaking. I have nowhere to go and this is stressing me. I have a dream of giving my children a quality education. I decided to take my son to Joyland accademy to give him a good education foundation. This is expensive and makes me struggle a lot with my little income.
