How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it was before. This is because the transfers enabled to increase my stock. Due to this, I no longer ran short of stock hence I serve all of my customers unlike before. This has made my daily profits to increase hence I can easily provide basic needs for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does their operations well and in an organized manner and I there is nothing that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I bought a heifer for rearing. My family will always have enough milk for consumption when it reproduces. Also, I bought a solar panel for lighting purposes in my household. I gifted my wife and daughter some amount to use in buying their personal needs. I spent the remaining amount to expand my business of buying and selling maize flour. Due to this my daily profits has increased since I now have enough stock.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I feel happier than before and it's like a load has been taken off my shoulders. This is because my children were able to sit for their end year examinations. Because of this, they will be able to proceed to their level next year. Also, with the help of GiveDirectly, I was able to purchase two sacks of maize flour. Due to this, my family now enjoys three meals a day unlike before when we used to take a meal or two a day. With the current economy, a family that takes three meals a day is considered to be living a luxurious life in my village because getting some work to do is very hard.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 3 am when I received a message alert on my phone. Since I was awake, I decided to read the message and know its content. I became so happy when the realization that I had received the promised money sunk into my mind. I knew that I would be able to achieve the goals that I had laid down after enrollment.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
As the norm of Kalenjins, owning dairy cows is always a pride and dream of everyone and because of this, I bought two heifers using part of my first transfer. When they reproduce, my family will not only get milk for consumption but I will also be able to sell milk to earn an income. Also, I used some amount in farming. I hired a tractor to till my farm, bought some tomato and maize seeds to plant and also chemicals to apply on my tomato plantation to protect them against cold. I also bought a solar panel and its battery for lighting purposes in my household and for charging phones. I used the remaining amount to meet some basic needs for my family. I bought two sacks of maize flour, decent clothes and also paid school fees for my children so that they would be allowed to sit for their end year examinations.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to buy a dairy cow that will in turn produce milk for sale. This will bring to an end the struggle of engaging in casual jobs that are usually unreliable. I have always thought of farming tomatoes and onions since its profitable and the weather patterns in this area favours it, thus this money will ensure i buy quality seeds and fertilizer.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening since its the time i get to rest after spending my mornings in people's farms doing casual jobs like digging ad weeding and spending the afternoons in my own garden weeding beans and vegetables.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Due to unpredictable rainfall patterns, it has proven hard to engage in farming. Despite having a bigger land that could aid in farming, we experience hunger due to poor harvests. This has forced me to engage in laborious jobs that are strenuous since i am the breadwinner of my family, yet it's also never a guarantee that one gets such jobs to engage in daily which is the biggest hardship i face.
