How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am glad we have enough food even though it is a dry season and food is scarce. When we received the transfers we bought enough food that was in season and stored them. We are able to sell them at a higher price than the price I bought them with since they are out of season and the demand is high. I can comfortably feed my family and still earn a few shilling to cater for my other needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Buying things such as clothes was a luxury for us. We struggled to put food on the table. Our first priority was paying school fees and having at least one meal a day. We had no hope of having new clothes any time soon since I am a casual worker and my meagre earnings cant allow me to afford certain things. I am glad I can afford certain things like other people. I appreciate what GD is doing by giving unconditional money to less fortunate in the community like us who couldn't afford such items.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received the transfers I spent part of it by giving out a tithe. I always believe one should always acknowledge God in everything I get in order for my work to be blessed. I then decided to invest some amount on a cow. Cows normally require little attention and their food is locally available in our area. It will soon give birth and fill the cowshed. I will be selling its offsprings to cater to my financial emergencies. I will also sell milk in order to sustain myself and meet my daily needs. I also did shopping and bought a few clothes, some household items and foodstuffs such as sugar. I also managed clear a hospital bill for my sister who was admitted in the hospital. I gave some amount to money my children to cater for other personal items. I thank GiveDirectly because I could not have attained all these were it not for them.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The demise of my husband in 2012 is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life.It happened at a time when my parents in law had just passed on.It was a very tough moment for me since he left me with 7 kids we really needed him both emotionally and economically. The gap he left behind has not been filled to date:the struggle is real characterized by casual labour which hardly brings enough on the table the saddest part is that my health is also deteriorating.
