How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
No! I have always plan to build a house. That has been my goal and remains my goal but I was unable to achieve this goal due to financial difficulties. I am a fisherman and farmer. I have been suffering to give my family the best care and security. To even provide our daily meal was a challenge. We are living in a house with one room. My wife, myself and our four children sleeps in the same room. This is a complete embarrassment but that's the condition we have to face. I work for people on their canoes on a daily basis to provide food for my family. Hopefully, this transfer from GiveDirectly will change our standards of living greatly. This is my biggest Joy at the moment.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly have done nothing wrong. Their enrolment processes are transparent. I can not lay my thoughts on anything they are not doing well. They are infact doing good for we the poor people. GiveDirectly will be the cause of me building my own house. I am going to print GiveDirectly on my house in appreciation to them. This will show to the government and any NGO that it was GiveDirectly that made me to build my own house. I will also be an employer after buying my canoe. I am also going to empower my wife by giving her money to start a new business. My children will continue their education.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have been living in someone's house with my family. That's something that embraces me and my wife. It's a condition we thought would be permanent. Am amazed to be part of this program. I bought two bundles of zinc for $28,000 LRD and some zinc nails. I also registered my children in school and bought their school materials. I saved the remaining nine thousands Liberian Dollars ($9,000 LRD) to enable me buy my own canoe.
