How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having been living in a substandard house, I have been able to purchase materials to build a much improved house and more to that, get livestock enhancing my animal rearing skills.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has changed lives all over as they help the less privileged in the society. They also help in upgrading livelihoods and encouraging those with no way out of troubled situations.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
On receiving the 53150Ksh from GiveDirectly, I was able to plan on the expenditure in line with the goals I had set. I bought iron sheets and nails for the construction of the new house at a total of 15500Ksh and timber at 15450Ksh enabling me to start on the new project. I have seven kids in school and I was also able to clear their school fees arrears of 3000Ksh hence they now can study without any distractions. I spent 2200Ksh for my hospital bill as I had been unwell for a while and needed urgent medical attention. At home, I added to the food supplements at 5000Ksh thus no sleeping hungry anymore. The balance of 12000Ksh, I bought three goats that I rear at home since I practise both livestock and crop farming.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was relaxing at home that evening and I didn't expect the transfers would be send that day. My kids had been send out of school due to fees arrears and I didn't know how long they would be home since I didn't have a penny. When the message popped, I was so happy that it was sent when I needed it most.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The greatest difference in my daily life is that my children are nolonger worried my children will be send home for school fees anytime and I can afford three meals a day.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a mother of seven children and a housewife and life has never easy for us because we all depend on my husband who works as a livestock keeper. Since he doesn't earn a basic salary but rather depends on milk which he sells when the cows give birth, the last two years has been tough due to drought because we couldn't milk the cows because calfs had nothing to eat. I wanted to buy our own livestock so that we can have something to depend on since we could sell and pay fees or cater for other necessities. With my recent transfers, I spend KES 20000 to buy goats, KES 5000 to pay school fees, KES 3000 to seek health care and I'm planning the balance to pay school fees and cater for other basic needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means continued education for my children. I will achieve this through livestock farming. I am planning to spend KES 25000 to buy seven indigenous goats which do well in our area. As the goats multiply I will sell at a profit and use the earnings to buy stationery and uniforms. The remaining amount will help me to purchase three beds and mattresses as well as food and other domestic needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I will not be fair to God if I say that nothing has made me feel happy. This is because when I wake up every morning in good health and see my children smiling in their faces, it brightens my heart and makes me full of happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am currently facing is a lack of money. I am a mother of seven children and my husband works as a Shepard for neighbors' livestock. His salary is paid when the livestock give birth whereby he earns one goat. In a year he can get two goats that do not sustain all of us for food and education. Due to this, I have been struggling to do casual jobs such as selling firewood which gives me a proceed of KES 1200 per month. The family requires KES 300 for food in a day. Consequently, it is extremely difficult to cater to the education of the kids. Sometimes they remain at home due to a lack of school fees thus affecting their performance.
