My children are happily in school because of the financial assistance I received from GiveDirectly. I was facing challenges in paying for their school fees on time, which resulted to them being sent home at times as learning continued. When I received the money, I paid in advance which gave me enough time to prepare for their next payments. In addition, I am also owning a cow and a bull, which I acquired through this transfer. I will be getting milk firm the cow for my family consumption.In addition, I can as well sell the surplus to earn some cash. The bull will help me in ploughing my farm since I have a complete pair. I will no longer be hiring oxen during the planting season, instead I will hire to them at a fee, which is an income to me.

The project came to us to uplift us from the poor lives we were living and owning nothing. In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in giving us the freedom to choose and spend the money at an individual level according to the different household needs. I don't see anything that GiveDirectly doesn't do well in our area.

I have been struggling to raise enough money that would ensure that my children, one in college and the other in high school, would continue with their studies without any interruptions and more so to realize their academic goals. Thus receiving my second transfer was a big boost to me because I managed to clear their fees, at KES 20000 and KES 15000 respectively to avoid being sent home for fees. They are now comfortably in school going on with their studies. I spent the money that remained to provide the daily basic necessities such as foodstuffs adequately for my family and paying for other household expenses.

I was previously operating a business of selling second-hand clothes to earn a living. It came to collapse and I was not able to revive it after I spent all my earnings to pay school fees for my children and when I received the transfer, I was able to revive my business again to life and now its flourishing. Through it, I am earning an income as well as engaging to productive activities instead of being a housewife. To me, this is the biggest difference in my daily life.

I received the notification early in the morning as I was doing my daily chores and I had left my phone somewhere in my house. I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness that couldn't be explained.

I spent part of my first transfer to buy oxen to help me in doing my farming. Previously, I couldn't cultivate my whole acreage for I didn't have enough money to hire some oxen and the farm tools were not efficient to till a large acreage. I know that with the pair, my yields will be improved and providing food for my family will not be a problem again. I was also operating a business of buying and selling second-hand clothes as a self-employment activity but it came to collapse and I was not able to revive it again due to inadequate capital. For this reason, I used part of the transfer to buy adequate stock and my business came into life again and I am happy that it is now flourishing. Through it, I will earn an income for my upkeep and pay school fees for my children. I spent the remaining amount to pay school fees to my son who is in high school and also did some shopping for my daughter who was joining college. It was through the transfer that I was able to accomplish all these.
