How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have been able to build a more decent house for my family. I am hoping that we will start living in this house very soon since the only thing remaining is to fix the doors and windows. Living in this house will be a dream come true to everyone in my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly did well by deciding to help people by giving us money directly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent a good amount from it to start building a house for my family. We live in a swampy area and my house is usually flooded during the rainy season. This is always a healthy hazard to my family during this seasons because the house is always too cold and moist. I spent the remaining amount to buy some clothes for my children and food that would last us for some time.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life is that I was finally able to support one of my family members who is an orphan by paying his school fees. I used to spend so much by selling farm produce in order to raise money for school fees payment and this was quite tough. I am also glad that I would finally build a better house in a comfortable place. Where we currently live is close to the river and gets so clogged with water during the rainy season and poses a health risk for my children and the whole family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was woken up by a message notification on my phone at around 0400hrs. When I checked and found out the transfers that were promised were finally here, I got so excited and woke my spouse up to share the good news.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought some building materials such as iron sheets and timber using the first transfer received in preparation to build a house after relocating. I also paid some school fees for a family member who we are supporting. I used the rest to buy food and other household items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I plan to use this money to buy wire mesh and some logs that i will use to demarcate my land into pardocks where my livestock will be grazing.I also intend to complete paying school fees for my sister inlaw's child who is in form three and is an orphan living here with me. The remaining part of my transfer will be spent in buying a 2000 litres water tank to harvest and store water during rainy seasons.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After engaging in my household chores every morning, i usually go looking for jobs in my neighbours' farms to enable me earn some income for the day. I am usually happy in the evening when coming back home from work after a fruitful day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My mother in law is ailing from heart disease and my father in law at the same time is ailing from cancer, which has hindered progress in my family. My husband and i work as casual labourers in people's farms and 60% of our daily income is spent on their treatment. This is the biggest hardship we are facing.
