How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it was in that, I no longer depend on garbage collection alone. The money brought a big change in changed my life because I decided to pay part of my transfer in a short training on repairing motorcycle. I get something by the end of the day as much as I am still training. I have reunited with my wife because I have proved that I can pay rent with the little money that I get from the garage supplementing with the garbage collection one. I have a cart that I bought with the transfer, I do not hire hence have reduced this cost. I can only thank GiveDirectly for financial support.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to buy a motorcycle. I plan to use the motorcycle as a taxi. Having it around will mean an extra income because I plan to multitask. Doing motorcycle repairs when there are no customers and majoring in the taxi business most of the time.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer on paying for a short course. I am training in repairing motorcycles. I hope to be an expert in repairing motorcycles soon. I finally decided to save the remaining portion of my transfer. I am planning to use the money to buy a motorcycle. I want to start a motorcycle taxi business. When there will be no customers to ferry in different places, I can do repairs in the garage because I plan to work in one station. I believe that the money that I will be getting will help me meet most of my goals.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My new goal is to start selling popcorns. From my research and knowledge from a friend, the business is lucrative. I want to maximize my profits but running the two business. I am certain that when I have two of them, I will be able to get more income which will help improve my living standards.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
For a long time, I have been collecting garbage to earn a living. A cart was the major equipment that I needed for my work. All these years, I could hire from a friend at a cost and this ended up reducing my income after deducting the hiring chargers. Having been able to buy my own cart using the transfer has been an achievement. For this reason, this is the biggest difference in my daily life so far since I started receiving this payment because my income has increased and I have also managed to start saving.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer to boost my mother's business which was almost collapsing. She has a greengrocery where she normally gets her income which she uses to take care of my siblings. I am glad that it is doing well. I also paid school fees for my brother who had been sent home due to fee arrears. The money came in handy because my mother's business was not doing well and so he could have stayed at home longer as we look for money. Apart from that, I bought a second-hand cart. I normally collect garbage and transport people's goods. Previously, I could hire a cart at a cost but after buying my own, I instead save the amount of money for my future goals.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer, I felt very happy because I could not imagine having such a huge amount of money. I read the message in the morning. I had picked my phone to go to work and in the process, I saw a message popping. Out of curiosity, I decided to know what it was all about. I realized that the transfer was already sent. I smiled out of joy. I hurriedly rushed to work because I did not want to get late. There were a lot of movements in the neighborhood that day, I can remember meeting a lot of my friends who were talking about the transfer.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
My first priority is to invest in an exsiting business, I used to be a hawker and I would sell sweets and gums along Thika road, I stopped about three months ago because I run out of cash to add more stock. I will use the money to put up a small structure and sell them instead of hawking. Secondly, I would want to put up a salon for my wife, we are seperated but I would want for her to be able to make her own money and be financially stable inorder for her to take care of our daughter. Lastly, I will keep the rest as savings. This will come in handy when ever I have an emergency and I am out of cash.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is the losing my mother. She has been there for us in the good and tough times. I would not know where I would be if it were not for her. She is still the one taking care of my younger siblings who are still in school. I really love her and I would prefer going before her and she lives for eternity.
What are your greatest ambitions?
I would want to be wealthly, to own different business, like hardwares in different locations selling car spareparts. To be a boss having employed people to work in my businesses as I read my newspaper at the comfort of my chair in my mansion.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
I wake up in the morning, I wash my face and take breakfast. I leave for work that is garbage collection and when I am done I go back home. I take a shower and later go catch up with my friends as I wait for any job opportunity or hustle to come up. In the evening I may watch football or a movie back at home. I later take my dinner and retire to bed for a goodnight sleep and sweet dreams. In my free time, I hang out with friends, watch football and movies.
