What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfer to settle a loan worth 25,000 KES which I use to cultivate sugarcane. The remaining transfer I bought 12 pieces of iron sheets which I used to expand my house. I am glad and happy seeing my children do have an ample space to play, study and sleep. Thanks to GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, I am happy that Give Directly gives a significant amount of money that enables us to make a tremendous step in life. However, we wouldn't like the program to end since it changes peoples' lives.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different than it would have been if I received the transfer in that I have extended my main house. My children have found an ample environment to play, study and sleep. Therefore I no longer beg sleeping spaces which eventually turn to be the gossip of the village . This is because I have been living in a very tiny house that could not accommodate us well hence they couldn't afford all this luxury. Thanks to GiveDirectly for the shelter.

I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on settling a loan I had. Part of the money I spent on building materials that I'm planning to use to enlarge my house because it's too small. I also bought television set so now I can watch the news from the comfort of my house.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that my husband lost his job and we do not have a stable source of income. Hence, getting money to buy food for the family is a challenge.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up healthy and I go out to plough my sugarcane farm.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that we will be able to build a bigger house as the one we stay in is very small. We will also be able to use part of the cash to buy fertilizer that we can apply on our sugarcane plantation.
