How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different because I managed to buy enough building materials to build a new house. I also have goats to keep in my homestead. I can readily depend on in case of a financial problem.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in improving our lives because we couldn't access a good shelter. Through the money, we have been able to build new houses and also we have livestock to keep. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I had began building my house but the materials got depleted and I couldn't finish this project. When I received my second transfer, I spent it on buying the remaining material and completed the house I also bought three goats KES 11500 that I am currently keeping in my homestead. I spent the remaining amount to buy foodstuffs and other household items including paying for other household expenses.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Having goats is the biggest difference that I can proudly talk of in my life. I settled on rearing goats because they reproduce twice a year and require minimal management compared to other domestic animals. Furthermore, their food is also easily available in my environment since they can live in any type of climate. I am hopeful that they will multiply and increase in number very soon. Therefore, I shall sell some in our local markets. Apart from that, I will exchange some for a dairy cow so that I can get milk and sell so that I can generate my daily income. And according to me, these are the well-thoughtful assets that will help me in the near future. Thank you GiveDirectly for making an impact in my life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 10:30 PM when I saw the message notification. When I checked its content, it was from GiveDirectly indicating that they had debited my first transfer into my account as they had promised. At that moment, my heart was filled with joy since I knew that I would be able to achieve a lot using the transfers.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying three goats at KES 9600. For a long time, it has been my great desire to rear them in my compound but I could not afford it due to my poverty life. I then bought twenty-three pieces of iron sheets, some nails, and building poles with the intention of building a house. Previously I used to sleep under a grass-thatched house which was leaking whenever it rained. It was so terrible. With the rest of the amount of money, I bought sufficient foodstuffs for my family that would sustain until us till the next harvesting season.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Being a stay home mum, it has always been my wish to acquire a tailoring skill so that I can help my husband who is a motorcycle rider in meeting the household needs. Currently, we struggle a lot given that his parents still depend on him for food and other basic needs. Therefore, once I receive my transfers, I will enroll for the course at the nearby training college. Again I will ensure that I purchase a sewing machine to assist me in actualizing my dream. This way, I will earn an income that can enable me to support my husband in raising and educating our children. And that is what receiving this money means to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day because it is at this moment when I feel energized and full of life. Again, I enjoy doing morning chores, an activity that keeps my mind engaged.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Dropping out of school due to lack of financial support is an unimaginable thing to any child who values education. This is what happened to me four years ago when I was in class seven. My parents could not meet my educational needs together with that of my siblings. We all ended up quitting school, a situation that crushed our dreams of attaining the highest level of education and subsequently bettering our lives and that of our children. But look at me now, a mother of two at the age of nineteen, married to a motorbike rider. I am glad things are going to be better once I receive my transfers, I will ensure my children never lack school fee by investing in livestock rearing. With my tailoring business up and running, life is going to be better.
