How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having accomplished all my goals like renovating my house and supporting the education of my kids. I am so grateful that I am living in a better shelter and happy that my kids are going to school without their education interrupted due to school fees. I don't have any new goals that I did not have before receiving my transfer.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in sending cash transfers directly to the less fortunate households in my village. In addition, every household was enrolled in the village without any discrimination. I do not see anything that it did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Providing quality education for my kids has been my desire in my life. This is because am illiterate and I have wished to educate my kids so that they may have a bright future. Currently, I have 3 children who are still in lower primary school. Furthermore, I spent KES 25,000 renovating my house that was about to collapse. I also bought new beddings for daughter for KES 8,000. With the remaining amount I acquired sufficient food for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so good the moment I received the money because I had gotten the assistance I needed for so long to address the challenges I was facing. I desired to have a bed and mattress to be sleeping comfortably like anyone else but I didn't have the ability. Therefore, I felt very happy and grateful when I received the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am like a redeemed person, before I neither had a bed and mattress nor the ability to get one. Also, education for my children was constantly being interrupted by the lack of school fees and accumulation of arrears. This used to give me sleepless nights, however, right now and in the future I am happy and hopeful because through GiveDirectly, I was able to get myself a bed and mattress, pay my children's school fees as well as get food for them and which will take us quite some time to finish. I am so happy and grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the transfer on my four children's education which cost a total of KES 20000 because I had gotten the assistance I needed to pay my children's school fees and other requirements. Also, I believe in education because it is not only important for my children to learn and grow but also is an opportunity for me to have something to count on in the future since I believe they will stand a chance of getting employed and help me as well, thanks to their good education. I also spent KES 11000 to buy a bed and mattress because I didn't have one and neither had the ability to get one before, and I used to sleep on the floor which was very uncomfortable and I desired comfort. Therefore, I went for a bed and mattress without second thought when I received the money. I am so happy and grateful that I now have a bed and mattress, I sleep comfortably and I am so proud. All thanks to GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a widow with 5 grandchildren from my daughter who was earlier married 5 years ago and then was divorced and forced to come back home with her children. Despite having life struggles, My daughter has been struggling to educate her children through a straneous means and I am seeing the need to help him educate her children. Receiving this money means my grandchildren will pursue their education without the problem of school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What gave me joy and a sense of hope in life is that I heard there is an organization called Givedirectly which was censuring our neighborhood villages, giving unconditional transfers. I received this message 3 months ago, it gave me hope in life that I will be relieved from my burden of life. Now Givedirectly reached our village last week and today in my house hold! I am happy my life will change soon.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Getting food and fresh water for drinking is the biggest challenge I am expiriencing.. We are expiriencing drought spell for over 3 years now and all the water pans have dried. I depend on the business of charcoal burning inorder to put food in the table. There's is no water in our area and we have to hire motorcycle operators to bring water from a distance of 10 kilometres. It costs 100 KES for a 20 litres jerican of water which is very expensive to me because the job I depend on does not give me much than getting a packet of maize flour and it is also very straneous . Sometimes I end up getting food but still goes to bed hungry because of luck of water to cook the food.
