How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having livestock of my won has become possible only because of the transfers from GiveDirectly. For a long time, I wanted to start keeping a cow but I could not personally afford a heifer. The business of livestock trading was not raising enough to meet our household needs including school fees and food. I needed to have an income from a dairy cow that will enable me to provide for the family while my husband's efforts in business to handle school fees. I am now glad to be a contributor to my household's income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDireclty treated all villagers equally. I love the fact that everyone in my village benefits regardless of their financial status and occupation.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money to expand my livestock trading business. I then bought a heifer. It will soon calve. I was targeting to have milk for house consumption. I will, however, be selling part of the milk for income. Milk production is the mainstay activity in our village. I will benefit too from the ongoing refurbishment of a local milk cooling plant put up by the government.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My husband have been operating as a livestock broker in our society which was doing well but the overwhelming family needs make his profits to small to rely on. We had to spend most of the coin he got from this business to sort out these needs. The business is a source of income to us and despite the challenges, his desire has been to boost this business. Thus when I received my first transfer, I took KES 25000 to inject to the business that would enable me to operate my business without any difficulties. This to me is an investment from which I am expecting a good income that will enable me to meet my financial needs. I am now happy that my husband's business is doing better, which makes it be the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a new message notification early that morning when I was already up preparing our breakfast. When I checked what the content could be, I was filled with happiness when I realized that I had received some money from GiveDirectly. I was filled with joy knowing that my child who is in her first year Kenya Medical College would easily get her school fees.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I believe the key to a bright future for my children is giving them education. I have children in various schools and colleges that I always work hard to see them get a humble time to study and attain good grades. My biggest challenge has been raising a lumpsum amount of fee collectively needed. When I received my first transfer I took KES30000 to pay college fees for my daughter in Kenya Medical Training College. I am happy that she will have a humble time to study as I look for the next semester fee. My husband has been a livestock broker, a business that has done to sustain our family. I gave him the remaining amount to boost the business since this will always help him gain more profits that can see our family meet the needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Boosting our family business of buying and selling cattle, sheep and goats using $400 of our transfer is what receiving this money means to us. I also plan to use $100 to add more chicken to my farm, spend $50 to renovate my poultry unit and the remaining part of my transfer will enable me to pay school fees for my 2 children in college next year
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day involves feeding my cattle with nappier grass in the morning before heading to the farm to weed my vegetables. This is the time i consider myself most happy
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Unstable source of income is the biggest hardship we are facing in my family. I have six children in school, two in college, two in secondary school and two in primary school. My spouse who engages in the business of buying and selling livestock is the only one we rely on to meet the family needs. I have tried to support him by planting vegetables for sale but failed to get good harvests due to land unproductivity.
