How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
The greatest difference in my life at the moment is that I now have a poultry farm which I didn't have before. I no longer depend on my parents since I can easily take care of my personal needs. I can also comfortably provide for my child. I feel good because I am no longer a burden to my family.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My main goal is to add more chicken to my poultry farm. I only have ten at the moment but I am targeting twenty by the end of this transfer. I decided to do this business because it is easy to manage since it doesn't require much attention compared to other farming options. Food is also readily available within the homestead. We can either eat eggs or the chicken on days that we might not afford to buy food.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
Currently, we are experiencing a food shortage in our area due to a disease which attacked our maize crops. Previously whenever we had such crises we would sleep hungry most of the days. We majorly depend on farming as the main source of income. This type of income is seasonal. Since we are receiving transfers from Give Directly, we can provide for most of our basic needs all through the year without waiting for harvesting seasons.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I would be earning good money through the sale of eggs. This money would enable me to be financially stable. I would majorly focus on adding more chicken with the profits I get so that I can sustain my self even after Give Directly have stopped sending us the transfers. I am glad I was one of the beneficiaries because I would have reached this far without them.

My life is currently different in that I have been able to have peace of the mind. Initially, I used to have a lot of stress on where I could get money for other personal uses or even to meet the most basic needs. Receiving this money changed everything for good and I now have enough time to attend to my own private projects and have a good time with my family as well. The stress of having to look for casual jobs and even doing the oddest of them is a thing of the past. I cannot thank GiveDirectly enough on the transformation they brought into my life.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to reduce the amount of casual labour that I do to earn a living. Before receiving these transfers, I had to work for long hours as I struggle to make ends meet for me and my family. Receiving these transfers has seen me have enough time to even attend to my own small farm and practice good farming methods. Production of food has been on the rise where I have even had surplus that I have been able to sell and save the money or divert it to other meaningful uses. This has brought so much joy and happiness in my life.

My life is currently different since I now own a cow. I was able to buy the cow when I received money from my savings in a table banking group where we contribute KES 1000 monthly out of the transfers. We are a group of 20 members and out of it I pocketed KES 40000 and bought a cow. It immediately calved and I now milk about 10 liters of milk. The milk I get has helped me generate an extra income.

My life is going to be really different in the next six months. By then I will be owning a whole herd of goats that I have been buying monthly since I began receiving the transfers. I am planning to sell these goats to support and pay school fees for my brother who is in college. In the next six months also, I will have saved d enough from the sale of milk and hopefully, the money will be enough for me to get piped water. I have really aspired to get piped water for irrigating my vegetables. My vegetable farming has been greatly affected by drought. Irrigating them, I believe will improve their production.
