Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was home working in my backyard when I received the transfer SMS. I stopped everything that I was doing and called an agent to come as quick as he could because I had heard there were a lot of scammers calling everyone in our village. I was very happy when I received the transfer. I lived in a small rented house with my wife and 3 kids. I was never comfortable not having my own place and I really needed to build a house. I was able to build a house, by food and some clothes for all of us.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Living in a small rented house while being a family of 5 had never been easy. I always felt less of a man because I did not own my own house. This first transfer changed our lives for the better and gave us the ability to do what we had always dreamed of doing which was build our own house and have our very own home.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the transfer. I started talking to the mason that was supposed to start building my house. I spent 293 $ on building my house and spent the rest on food and clothes. My house is now standing strong and I am waiting on LS2 to the finish. I am so thankful to GD; I never pictured myself in my own house.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
The first installment we want to build our own house and buy other materials like matress beds and food for our family.
The second installment we plan to finish building our house and the balance we plan to buy livestocks, we want to buy 2 goat for $120 and 3 chickens for $9.
Receiving this money means getting out of poverty, because it will help us have a home and own livestocks to give us fertiliser and sell in the future to give us stable income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
We received a visitor recently who came to stay with us for a short period and he left us with some money, and that money was very helpful to us in these days.
Being able to have a place to rent gave us security, because we were living in our mother in law's house for 10 years and when she come back recently we had to search for a house to rent for ourselves and we are happy that we have been able to find it and we no longer have to seek lodging from our families.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The house we rent is very small and uncomfortable, we don't have the capacity of building our own house because the small amount of money we work for we use it in our expenses and providing food for our family.
We currently don't have enough land, to have food on our table we have to rent a land and be able to cultivate what to eat.
