Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I depend on small scale farming for my daily needs. The amount of money that I get from the sales of my farm produce is so small and I had no savings to buy a dairy cow. I used to buy milk and it was so costly for me. When I had no money I would go without breakfast and this was demoralizing. Currently, I have bought a dairy cow. I no longer buy milk. My family has enough milk and I sell the surplus at the market to earn an income to meet other additional needs for my family. I am so much grateful because my life has changed to be better compared to when I had not received the money. I have devoted much of my time to my farm and this has given me hope of getting a good harvest next season and my family members will not go without food any longer. Thanks to GiveDirectly for the good work done.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt so happy because I have never received such an amount of money before. I remember it was very early in the morning when I received a message on my phone. When my son checked it, it was a message confirming that I have received a sum of 55000KES from GiveDirectly. We really celebrated with my family and we immediately budgeted on how to spend the money that morning. We were so grateful because we knew our lives would change to be better.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to buy a dairy cow, this is because used to buy milk and it was so costly for me. I also bought food, beddings and the rest of the money I built a better and spacious house for the family because we used to live in a small house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
At my old age, i solely depend on selling 6 litres of milk daily produced by my Friesian cow at ksh 27 per litre to sustain the needs for my two grand children and myself. I therefore will invest my transfer in buying two more dairy cattle to boost my income whose savings will latter enable me to build a new house and start up poultry keeping project hence my living standards will greatly improve.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I usually spend my mornings herding my cow, ensuring it gets enough feeds as well as water in order to produce enough milk for sale since this is my only source of income . I am always tired by afternoon which is the the time i get to rest and get a nap which makes it the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I extracted my tooth 7years ago and during the process of extraction, there was a complication which affected my nerves. Since then, i have been having sleepless nights because of severe pains. I have been in and out hospitals seeking for medication but i haven't been successful in getting one. This is the biggest hardship i have faced.
