How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I wish to start a business of buying and selling maize. I want to start the business because the demand for maize in our area is high. The maize crops in our area do not do well when grown because the sun is too much and there is less rainfall. I plan to get the money for starting the business from the sale of eggs and milk. I was able to buy a cow and more chickens to add to the ones I had with the transfer that I got from GiveDirectly. With the business, I will be able to earn more income that I can use on other important developments.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well because they helped me achieve some of my goals. I was able to buy a cow that I had always desired to have and more chickens. I used to buy milk before but now I no longer incur those costs. I have also been able to get more income after I increased the number of chickens that I rear. Apart from that, GiveDirectly also did well because they uplifted the lives of many in the community. Most of them were able to make many developments such as building new houses, buying livestock, and many more. Their lives are hence no longer the same. I however feel like GiveDirectly should have considered helping all the people in the community and not to leave out some of them. Some single mothers were left out because they had moved out of the village in search of work to do to earn a living for their children whom they left at home. I would highly recommend that they be considered for the transfer since they are needy and they have children who depend on them for everything.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my second transfer on buying more chickens and their feeds. I have been rearing a few chickens and they have been of great benefit to me. I was able to sell eggs and get income for buying foodstuffs and household necessities such as soap, oil, etc. I hence decided to buy more chickens to add to the ones that I had to get more income. I was not able to do so before because I didn't have the money to do so. Most of the income that I get from the sale of farm produce usually goes to the purchase of food, that is maize for my family of five. I am thus so much grateful to GiveDirectly for offering their help to me.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9:30am. I was doing my daily household chores. The I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I didn't expected any messages from anyone. I didn't check immediately I continue with my work. When I cleared what I was doing I decided to check the message. I couldn't believe my eyes, it was message confirming that I have received KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly. I felt so Happy because I have never received such amount of money before. I immediately inform my family members and they also celebrated the. I knew I would be able to start a poultry keeping project. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have started a poultry keeping project. This is my source of income. I had always wished to own a business before but I didn't had money to start. We depend on casual jobs in the village and sometimes to get this jobs is so hard. I do small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I didn't had surplus to sell to earn an income. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly we decided with my spouse to start a poultry keeping project. Currently we have 50 hens and rooster. We collect eggs daily and sell at the market. This has enabled me to earn an income daily. Currently I am able to meet all my needs and save some money for merry go round group that we have started in our village. I am also in a position to buy chicken feeds and without delaying. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20,000 to start a poultry keeping project. I purchased 50 hens for a start. I had always wished to own a business but I didn't had the money. This is a source of income to enable me meet my daily household expenditure. I purchased poultry feeds for my hens. I spent some amount to purchase two goats and the rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wanted to transform the whole of my main house to be of a concrete wall and floor.I have renovated a part of it but I was unable to complete it due to inadequate funds. Some bags of cement are in the store at the moment.I want to transform the whole house so that it can be decent and attractive.I want at least $500 to complete the house.I shall also establish a good business with a capital Of Sh. 45000 to serve the community ,the one I had initially collapsed because I used the benefits to pay my kids school fees and now that I have nobody to pay school fees for I can sustain a business (shop).
What is the happiest part of your day?
When I wake up in the morning I take my breakfast, I go to the farm and later to field to look after my cattle.I am always happy whenever am healthy and stress free.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Hunger is the main challenge I ever faced. in year 2019 our maize were affected by a disease , we could not harvest anything at all.The price of maize shot to Sh 150 per 2 kilograms .My family had to take one meal a day (super) because I did not have enough finances to buy maize flour, vegetables as well as milk.
