How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I now have access to clean water at my doorstep. Due to this, I no longer spent most if my quality time looking for clean water for use but I use it looking after my livestock or working in my farm.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by enrolling everyone in our village and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent a good amount to connect piped water to my compound. I settled on this since I usually walk for a longer distance looking for clean water for domestic use. At times, I was forced to walk for a distance of up to 10 kilometers and this is tiresome and time consuming. I spent the remaining amount to pay school fees for my children in school so that they would not be sent back home.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is having enough food for my family. In the past, my family used to miss some meals in a day. This is due to the drought and certain diseases that attacked our maize plant. This caused us not to harvest any for some years now. We have been relying on buying maize since it is our staple food but due to my nature of work, I could not afford to buy enough. Thanks to GiveDirectly. The transfers enabled us to purchase some sacks of maize that can last us for some months. This has relieved me from doing a lot of casual jobs like before.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning when I woke up to find a message notification. Upon checking, it was notifying me that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I felt very happy and went straight to wake my family to celebrate together. Thanks to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my transfer on purchasing on building materials. we have been planning to build a store for maize harvest. This has been a challenge to us since we did not have money because we usually prioritize paying school fees. Maize plants are our source of income because we did not had a good place to store them we usually sell at any price immediately after harvest. Having this now will assist me to store and wait until the market is good.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means i will be able to build a chicken house in my compound. I practice poultry farming but due to lack of finances to construct a house for my chicken, i always sleep in my small house with them which makes the house stuffy. I will also use part of my transfer to buy dairy cattle which will act as my source of income since i Will be able to supply milk in my neighbourhood and earn money to sustain my family
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day entails herding my cattle and sheep in the farm during the day. What is more tedious is taking them to a stream far from home to get them drinking water . I'm always happy in the evening when i take my herd back home knowing that they had enough food for the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship i have faced is financial constraints. It has been hard to pay school fees for my children as well as meet their daily basic needs due to lack of source of income. My daughter studies in the nearby polytechnic and she is always sent home for school fees. This has been a great challenge to me but with the money from give directly, i will be able to pay school fees with less difficulty.
