What does receiving this money mean to you?
If I receive the cash transfer I will use some to build my own house and stop renting, pay my children school fees and then use the balance to start a business that will help to reduce hunger in my family. I have been renting a room from a neighbor since my house broke down about four years ago and I have not been able to reconstruct it, because of the limited source of income I have. I am a single mother of four children, my husband divorced me for another woman and left all our children with me to care for. I was selling a small business that used to help us get food and paid my children school fees, everything has gone because of our monthly rent we have to pay and daily meal. I had plans to reconstruct my house and stop renting but it's difficult for me because my earnings are not enough to execute the plans. I have to pay Chain saw operators to cut some woods for me to prepare charcoal and sell before I pay my rent and get food for my family. If I receive the cash transfer, it's great going to help me execute my plans (get my own house, pay my children school fees, and start a business to ease hunger in my family) because I am always burdened when the month is coming to an end, my landlord will be knocking my door for his money.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last six months what has brought me joy or happiness was the day Givedirectly choose to serve our village in November 2021. It has been my anticipation to see Givedirectly in our village because of the assistance they give to restore stability in our lives from poverty, I am really happy. I am convinced that this opportunity will ease the burdens I am currently facing.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenges I am currently facing is access to finance and food security. Before my husband divorced me, I was selling a small business that helped to build our house, paid our children school fees and sustained the family, but since he left me the struggles has not been easy and the worse to it our house broke down due to a heavy storm. We moved to one of our neighbors house where we are renting one of their rooms. My source of income nowadays is sales of charcoal, I have to pay some chain saw operators to cut wood for me to prepare charcoal for sale. The earnings from there help me to sell wrappers and other goods which I pay my rent, my kids school fees and find food for the family. My husband divorced me and left all the kids with me to shoulder their responsibilities. The burden to care for four children as a single mother is not an easy task. I will really appreciate assistance that will improve my livelihood for the better.
