How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Looking at my life now, I am confident to say that this GiveDirectly transfer has given me a higher status in my community because through my husband I own a motorcycle (although it was using the first transfer) and also, my husband has a produce business that is supporting me to get all my personal and family needs. Prior to getting this money, together with my husband, we used to do casual labor to raise money to sustain our family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly has done well by giving me money that I have used unconditionally.
On the other hand there is nothing bad that GiveDirectly has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Together with my husband, I spent my second transfer Ugx 1400000 to start a produce business (buying and selling of produce).
I then gave my husband Ugx 100000 to replace some worn out parts of the motorcycle that we bought using the first transfer.
I lastly used the remaining money to buy my personal needs and those that will be needed in hospital during my delivery.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My needs are met on time because of the bodaboda business that brings income into my household. Food, Medical among others are addressed on time since our motorcycle is the main income generating activity. Prior to receiving GD money, I could depend on manual work in people's farms in order to get money for the family's well being. In addition to this, I Sometimes sold my harvest in order to raise money for diet, medical, school fees among others which affected our food security.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
my heart was filled with joy when I got this money. I woke my spouse up in the night and informed him about the good news but he never believed it until when he checked the account balance. We were so happy together and jubilated upon receiving our transfer from GD.

I decided to a motorcycle for a bodaboda business.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means owning two acres of farm land. We started purchasing the two acres but not completed yet. When we complete purchasing, we shall grow crops, sell some for educating our children and the balance will be eaten. Currently we are cultivating on an acre of land given to us by the clan but it is not enough to support our household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is after lunch when I have been able to secure a meal for my household. When they have eaten, they are happy and so do I. We then begin to tell stories about how the day went and that is positive for me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is inadequate land for crop cultivation in order to support our household. We are basically farmers and we can not sustain our household without land to cultivate. We are only surviving on an acre of land which is not sufficient.
