In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in giving us the cash transfers unconditionally unlike other Organizations. We are able to plan for ourselves and improve on our living standards, we can now afford the very basic needs like daily food which would have been impossible had we not received the support. We have not been able to work on our farms due to a prolonged drought. We are now forced to buy food which is expensive to us since we do not have stable sources of income.

The transfer has enabled me to buy enough food and medicines as well as attending regular hospital checkups. I was diagnosed with a heart problem and successfully went through surgery. Since then I have not been able to do manual works. I am a widow and my children depend on me for their fees and upkeep. I cannot do the jobs I used to do when I was healthy. I am grateful to GiveDirectly because through the transfers, I used KES 2000 to pay for my three children's fee arrears. They are now continuing with their studies without any interruptions on fees. I also spent KES 1500 to buy medicines and also attend checkup expenses for my condition. Lastly, I spent the remaining amount to buy enough food that will serve us for some weeks since I am not working.

I was overwhelmed with so so much excitement because I could finally send my children back to school after they had stayed home for two weeks which almost seemed like an eternity to both me and them. Apart from that, the entire time I was at my brothers home he tried to cater for my health by paying hospital bills for me since I had no money, so after receiving the money I was glad because I too was able to chip in and cater for my own health situation.

After my husband passed my kids became my biggest priority and I have tried to my level best to ensure that they get all their basic needs. But unfortunately my health has deteriorated and at times I cannot work, and if I cannot work that means I cannot earn and eventually my kids cannot attend school and get an education since I am financially incapable. That is why I am so grateful towards GiveDirectly because were it not for them and the transfers I receive I do not know whether my kids would continue to get and education or even eat sometimes. Lastly the funds played a huge role in helping me get a remedy for my ailment and receive medical attention.

Weeks before receiving the money from GiveDirectly I feel very ill and after sometime I noticed my health kept deteriorating so I went to town where my brother resided so as he could help me go to hospital and receive medical attention. After a while my kids were kicked out of school and since I was not home and did not have money either they ended up staying home instead. A fortnight later I received the funds from GiveDirectly and my first priority was to ensure that I sent my three kids back to school because they had stayed home long enough and had already missed out on their studies for quite sometime. I gave them KES 2,000 and the next day they were on their way back to school. After that I was left with KES 1,000 and decided to use it on matters concerning my health which included medication because I was notified after consultation with the doctors that I had low blood sugar levels.
