How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I would like to complete the flooring of the house. After completing the window panes and installing plywood, I left the floor unattended. With an infant, this is important because the dust would affect her. I plan to sell a few bags of maize from our farm in the coming season and start on the flooring project, which is about $600. We looking at completing the project before the next planting season.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly is one organization that stands out in its unique way of supporting this village with unconditional cash. The funds have enabled my family to complete our house, which was incomplete for quite some time because of the financial constraints faced by the family. I will forever be grateful to the support program because the biggest difference is the support funds that bought my family a dairy cow which I can enjoy its fresh milk, especially now that I recently got a baby
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We are a family of seven members, and my husband is a farmer. We depend on the farming of maize and beans. As soon as I got enrolled in the program, we planned to complete my home, which didn’t have window panes and needed some interior finishing of plywood but my first transfer was used to buy a cow and bought the family some clothes, food, and seedlings, and paid school fees for my eldest child. The second transfer of $470 was used to complete the house, which was buying the windowpanes, plywood, and labor for the complete work done. The remaining cash was used to buy my daughter's newborn clothes and requirements. I was grateful to the organization because the house was almost complete and the dairy cow

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was thrilled when I received a message from GiveDirectly that confirmed the receipt of my first transfer. With my husband and other family members at home that evening, we were so excited that we had to call back the office to say thank you for the support we had gotten. We thanked God and celebrated a lot that evening before withdrawing the entire amount the following day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the purchase of a dairy cow that has constantly supplied my family with enough milk and also extra liters to sell and generate daily income. The daily income has improved our financial security in the household as we no longer obtain any item on credit as we previously did.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In the past few weeks, my family has been enjoying enough supply of milk for our household use and some liters for sale after spending KES 35000 from the first transfer on buying a dairy cow. This has drastically cut the previous cost of buying milk for my family of six. I also spent KES 15000 to complete the construction of my house after buying window grills, panes, and also a ceiling board that has been fixed. In addition, I spent KES 45000 on new pairs of clothes and use the remaining in buying enough foodstuff that we are still using with my family of six. I am grateful to GiveDirectly and hope to do more when I receive the second transfer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Construction of our house has stalled for about five years due to a lack of finances. We are yet to install windows and ceilings as well as completing the floor. In that sense, receiving this .iney means that we shall afford to complete the construction of the house. We shall use approximately KES 50, 000 of the transfer on this project.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Since getting married here, I have never conceived since I had used some contraceptives. This has disturbed me and my husband a lot. Fortunately, I conceived some five months ago after using some herbs. This serves as the main source of happiness for us because a child will bind us more and serves as a sign of success in our marriage.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Continued inadequacy of food in our household serves as the biggest challenge we are facing. We reside and do farming on 0.4 acres of land. So, we are always worried that a time might come when we shall have no food in the house.
