How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received my transfer. Through the transfer, I was able to own a piece of land. Previously, I was cultivating in place which I lease and with low nutrients level because it has been used for a decade. I opted to purchase a new place but I lacked the financial capacity. Also through the aid l am Owning a cow which I will exchange for a dairy cow when it matures. Lastly, I constructed a house since the one I had was grass-thatched and it was used as a Kitchen at the some, I was experiencing chest problem due to the smoke from the firewood.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well for giving out cash transfer instead of material thing. This has helped boost the lives of every household because each decided on how to spend their transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $400 to acquire a piece of land which l am planning to start cultivation. At the moment, I am leasing a farm which I have to pay by the end of every harvest. In addition, I spent $120 of the transfer on purchasing one cow, this was the future investment for the family. Furthermore, I bought clothes and food with the remaining amount.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was from the dam when my phone started ringing continuously. I did not bother to check the notification since I am illetrate, I decided to proceed to my homestead. Upon arriving, I asked my elder son to check what the notification was all about. On checking hed realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I was overwhelmed with joy and started celebrating with my family
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
For all those years, I have been living in a temporary house with a leaky grass-thatched roof. My life has never been full of stress because whenever it could rain, I had to seek shelter from friends. Also, I had to change the grass roofing yearly, this was costly according to my financial status. After receiving the transfer, my first thought was to construct a new house and live comfortably like the rest of my family members. Currently, I am so glad since my family and I are sleeping under a decent spacious iron-roofed house. I will no longer get stress up during the rainy season like I used to do back in the days.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some livestock such as a pair of oxen worthy of KES 36000. I also bought construction materials such as iron sheets, building poles, nails, and threads. This was purely for the construction of a new house since the previous was almost collapsing. Since my spouse is old and jobless, acquiring the money for the construction of the money was not possible, being the breadwinner, the little money I was earning from the casual jobs was only enough fr the family's basic needs. With the remaining amount, I bought some foodstuffs for the family

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means food security for my family. I'll use 600 dollars from this donation to buy food. I'll buy food stuffs weekly from the local shops around given that I lack the appropriate food storage facilities. Food is a basic necessity of life and no one can live without food. In addition to this I'll use 300 dollars to buy two indeginous dairy cows to supplement my family with milk. I can also sell a certain quantity of the milk to attend to my few financial obligations.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time I take a rest after a busy day in the forest burning charcoal.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is food insecurity. Spending the day in the forest burning charcoal and getting nothing to eat in the evening has been very painful.
