How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different as I received the transfer from GiveDirectly and used buy building materials i.e. iron sheets, nails and timber to build a new house for my second wife. We used to have constant quarrels so much with my second wife about the house. Now we live a peaceful life as I managed to build her the new house unlike previously when I could not as only earn meagre pay from casual work which caters for both food and school fees for our children.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has helped change the lives of the less fortunate in our society. There are many developments going on in many ways in our village. Personally, I have ventured into large scale farming of sugarcane. I get to harvest more farm produce which helps feed my family and we even get to sell the surplus to help improve our livelihood in our family. GiveDirectly does nothing wrong at all!
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I have two wives who lived under the same roof. It is hectic as they kept fighting each other because of petty misunderstandings. The younger wife kept pressurizing me to build her a house. When I received this transfer, I used it to buy building materials i.e.iron sheets, nails, poles and timber to build a new house for my second wife as she did not have her own house. I also bought livestock i.e goats for rearing as a form of financial security for my family. My child was sent away from school to clear school fees arrears so I used part of it to clear the outstanding balance.

Receiving this money means that I will be able to pay school fees for my two children who are in secondary school, I will be able to build a new house for my wife and the remaining amount will be spent on buying furniture for my house so that I can replace the old ones.

The biggest hardship I face in my life is that my income is very low and getting school fees for my children is a huge task as at times they are sent home for fees while other students are learning.
