How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Were it not for GiveDireclty, I would not have resumed my studies towards my dream of becoming a teacher. It was so painful that I could not raise money to pay. I could not get any support from anywhere else because my husband grew up as an orphan. We live together with his grandmother who cannot offer any help. I had stopped my studies by the time GiveDirelty came with this aid. I am so happy that my life will get better after I complete my studies to get a job.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDireclty conducted the enrolment in a very fair manner such that no one was left complaining, This resulted in a very peaceful moment even at the peak of the behave of activities in my village which would have easily led to conflicts but none of it happened.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money I received on completing the house that I started using the money form GiveDirectly. After the first transfer, I needed just a little more to buy windows and ceiling boards. I also used part of it to pay for its construction labor. I had been living in a small house that has given me enough room for all of us including my children who are growing quite fast. I also paid school fees for myself so that I can proceed to finish my course that had almost dropped out because of lack of school fees. I am glad that I was able to do this. I then bought foodstuffs for the household.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
With all the joy and excitement that the transfer has brought to our household, there is a lot to celebrate for the milestones which we have come through so far. There have been a lot of differences and the biggest in my daily life is the fact that I managed to resume my studies after being out of school since 2014. I had lost hope in getting back to it again but GiveDirectly came to prove the fact that everything is always possible.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
On receiving the money from GiveDirectly, I was really filled with happiness and the hope that all I had been dreaming of achieving in life will be possible. I received a notification at exactly 5:48 am in the morning; a message which cleared my head of all depressions and thoughts of where our daily bread will come from departed my mind.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
On receiving the first transfer from GiveDirectly, I had a long-time dream which I have been praying for. The construction of a new house in our household was everybody's wish in the family. I spent part of the transfer on buying 40 iron sheets which have gone to the construction of a two-room house. For the remaining amount, I used part of it on buying foodstuff which includes cooking oil, sugar, and also milk. The remaining patch went to the clearing of my college fee after staying out of school after deferment since 2014. I am really grateful that GiveDirectly came to our rescue.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My family currently lives in two very small houses.It is most often congested and cannot accomodate the five members of my household especially when it comes to a sleeping place.My children are grown and also need their own space.Therefore,when I receive this money,I intend to build a bigger house so that this small one can serve as a kitchen.Since this will will only use up sh 30000 (300 Usd) of my transfer,I will use the remaining part to buy a cow for 300 Usd, and four sheep costing 200 Usd.I will then use the rest to offset school fees for my children as well as buy household items.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Most of my day i.e. morning till afternoon is spent in the farm.In it,I plant food crops like maize and beans mainly for my family's consumption.Within this time also,I ensure that my cows have enough feeds and water to keep them till end of the day.This is mostly the happiest part of my day because I enjoy these activities and through this,my family gets its food and an income to meet all the other needs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I got married immediately after High school.However,my dream has always been to further my education-I hoped to do this even after getting married.This has however not been possible due to the challenges experienced by young families in this area.There is the constant struggle to provide for the family and without any form of employment for both my spouse and I,it is often difficult.Since we do not have any assets to sell or any investment that can generate money,I opted to halt my desire to go to college for a while as we invest in livestock keeping to be able to raise fees for me and the children.It has taken quite a long time to meet the amount required because every time a need for money arises within the household,we have to settle it first.This has been the biggest hardship I have faced.
