How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I used to struggle so much in paying for my children school fees before I received the transfer, but now I no longer need to sell any of my household items to get the cash, I no longer worry about the fees anymore, on top of that I bought a dairy cow and started a poultry farm hence I am positive that I will earn an income out of it, The financial support that I received from the organisation is the biggest thing that has ever happened in our lives and we are so grateful for the support.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly supported us at a time of need, in my opinion, their work is well organised and I don't see anything that is not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer I paid for my children tuition fees of KES 15,000, started poultry keeping with KES 3000, finally bought a dairy cow and a goat. With all this, I am certain my life will change to a better one.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was a great feeling receiving a huge transfer from GiveDirectly. The moment I confirmed the receipt, I was really happy and filled with hope that a complete change in my life was finally in. The imagination of ending the painful struggles and suffering we have been going through gave me a reason to be grateful then both to God and GiveDirectly for considering my household in the project. I am still thankful after investing all that I received in the destined plans I had.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
, Investing a bigger percentage of my transfer on livestock has so far brought the biggest difference in my daily life. This has proven to be the greatest decision ever made after receiving the transfer. It has so far been cushioning us on the small bills within the household - an assurance that we will soon be fetching even more proceeds from the surplus livestock products. We needed an investment which will be paying school fees for our children and at least assuring us of better security in the future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With the 33,000KES of the whole amount I had received, I spent on purchasing livestock. I decided to obtain a cow, two Dorper breeds of sheep, and also layer chickens. I paid school fees with the other 10,000KES for my son who is currently in secondary school and purchased household goods with the remaining amount. Having done all that, it was a relief to me having been planning and hoping that we will be producing milk and other products from our own livestock soon. This is an investment we are looking forward to giving us some proceeds from the products and making it easier for us to settle all household bills and school fees for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I intend to start doing some market research and analysis on livestock (specifically cattle, sheep and chicken) prices. My intention for doing this is to avoid exploitation from the businessmen for us who will have received the transfer. I will keep the transfer in my mobile money provider as I monitor the price dynamics. Once it comes to the normal rate, I will use part of the transfer to buy 3 dairy cattle at a cost of 60,000 shillings, 3 sheep at a cost of 12,000 and the remaining amount built a poultry unit. I will then prioritize on chicken since they multiply fast hence more income from the sale of their products.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After I am done with the usual household chores, I head to my french beans farm. I am one of those contracted by Mara farm company to grow french beans and then sell to them once they mature. I spend most of my daytime there doing weeding and applying pesticides on them until they are ready for harvest after 52 days. The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up feeling energized as this is required on a daily basis to carryout all the farming practices on my french beans farm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I live with my kids and a husband who is a retired casual labourer of a certain institution. Currently, I have 4 kids who are still schooling. I adopted two of them after the demise of their parents. With no regular source of income, paying for the school fees of these four kids had been an uphill task for me and I have had to sell part of the livestock I had to achieve this. This for me has been the biggest hardship I have ever experienced.
