How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Owning a reliable source of income for the family after starting livestock rearing with my first transfer is a great transformation in my life. Also, I was able to pay the fees arrears for my children whom they would have been discontinued at the moment due to lack of school fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly had done we'll for sending us cash transfer which improved our living standards. I don't think there is anything that Givedirectly is not doing well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer to repair my house by purchasing 10 iron sheets and nails. This is because it was leaking on one part. Also, I paid school fees for my children and the remaining amount assisted me to purchase enough food for the family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 1300Hrs and I was just in the house when I heard a message come into my phone. I checked my phone and I saw the Mpesa message. I was very happy and excited to see the money in my phone. I am very happy and grateful to GiveDirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own livestock. I also have a comfortable bed and mattresses now, and I no longer have to sleep on a mat on the floor. I am very grateful to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfers to purchase two cows, 1 goat and I also bought a bed and a mattress. I had no bed for a very long time and I used to sleep on a mat on the floor. I am happy I can now sleep on a comfortable bed. My husband and I both burn and sell charcoal for a living. We have no child yet, but we are hopeful that God will bless us with a child soon.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always admired livestock farming but I have never heard enough money to start. With this money I will buy two cows at a cost of 300 USD. As the number multiplies,I will be able to start other projects and deal with emergencies that sometimes arise. The roof to my house leaks during the rains. This has been a problem for a while now,but with this money I will be able to replace the iron sheets and do some other renovations.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day. This is because a new day presents another fresh opportunity to make a change in my life. I am always motivated in the morning to do my work. I do casual jobs as well as sell charcoal.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial struggles is what has been my biggest hardship. I am a charcoal vendor and this work earns me very little money;very little in the sense that I cannot do bigger projects that can increase my income. For example, I have always wished to be a livestock farmer but due to lack of enough capital,I have not been able to venture into this. Selling charcoal earns me as little as 35 USD in a week.
