How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My dream is to add more goats and practise poultry farming. I also want to be able to take good care of my kids by providing all the basic needs and see them continue with their studies uninterrupted.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly generosity is immeasurable and I'm so grateful that they are focussed in uplifting our livelihoods.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Lack of a stable source of income has been the main challenge facing my family. When I received this second transfer, I was able to buy food worth Ksh 5,000 for my family as we had nothing in left in the house to eat. The house that we were staying in was so small and had a leaking roof. I managed to spare Ksh 30,000 to build a better one for us. I also got to buy three goats at Ksh 9,000. I also bought mattress and beddings for my family worth Ksh 6,000. We now enjoy a warm and peaceful night courtesy of GiveDirectly generosity.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 5 pm while on my way home from buying some maize flour when I received a message on my phone. Since I had the phone in my hands, I quickly checked to see what kind of a message it was since it rang twice. Upon checking, I did not believe my eyes. It was a huge amount of money; KES 55000.00 that had been sent into my account by GiveDirectly. I felt like ululating because of how happy I was but I contained myself. I did not want people to know hence rejoiced and ululated inwardly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before receiving the money, I was worried about where I would get some money to construct a house at the new place we were moving to. Lucky enough, I was among the ones who received the transfers from GiveDirectly and this transfer helped me greatly. If it were not for it I cannot tell how I would have gone about the whole issue of moving.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I withdrew the money, I bought 22 pieces of iron sheets for KES 23100.00, building poles for KES 8000.00, rafters for KES 6000.00 roofing timbers for KES 2000.00. The aim of buying these materials was to build a new house on a new plot since we were moving from where we were residing to a new plot that my dad bought. The building labor cost was KES 10000.00. Thereafter, I bought one goat for KES 3000.00 and used the rest to buy some food for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I plan to buy livestock, this includes 3 goats which will cost 15,000 KSH. We plan to buy chicken for rearing which will cost 5,000 KSH. For the remaining amount of 35,000 KSH we plan to add an extra room for my sons and also build a kitchen at the moment we are cooking outside and it's very windy and as rains are approaching, we might be forced to cook inside our house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My son was circumssied 2 months ago and I feel proud of him.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We lack a cooking place and are forced to cook outside, which I can say we lack privacy. I'm also a house wife and I lack an income generating activity that will help me provide for my family instead of depending on my husband alone.
