When I received my first transfer it was like a dream. I was in my kitchen finding food for my children. I overheard a huge noise on the other side of the town. What does receiving this money mean to you?
"When I receive any transfer from Give Directly, I will use some of the money to establish a business that will sustain my family and the rest will be used to build a house. In 2019 my husband divorced me and left all of the children with me. After he made his decision for divorce, he threw the children and me out of the house without a place to stay. After months of sleeping with friends, one of his brothers decided to give me a room in his house for the children and me to stay".
What is the happiest part of your day?
One time I went to a neighbouring village to visit a friend and I heard them discussing about the positive impact of Give Directly. During their discussion, they said Give Directly give Financial aid to people without any condition attached. This news brought me so much excitement and hope. I was excited because I believe receiving money could help relieve the hardship I am faced with as a single mother"
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial hardship is a major constraint for me. On many occasions my children go to bed without a meal. At times I have to beg neighbours for food before we eat. All these are happening because there is no other source of income and I am unable to engage into large farming as a single mother. I am mostly engaged with a little cassava farming as a means of providing food for the children but they are mosty destroyed by pests because I am not able to protect the farm from them t by surrounding it with fence".
