How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The cash transfers uplifted my family. For instance, I paid school fees for my children. In the past, we could hardly have a decent meal. Nevertheless, when I received the cash transfers, we purchased a motorcycle which earns daily income for the family. My family nutrition and feeding have greatly improved because we can afford to eat a balanced diet.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done so well to send the poor cash transfers. However, some GiveDirectly field officers listen to community rumours which made some people miss out on being enrolled.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second cash transfer was spent on paying school fees. I bought a cow and a pig. Then the balance was spent on buying household items. I have saved UGX 300000 to rennovate my house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life is different in so many ways, first and foremost, feeding has improved in my household because previously it was difficult to afford sugar for breakfast yet it was necessary and we can now have three meals a day. Secondly my children and I look smart because we dress on clean and new clothes unlike before when we dressed on the same and worn out attire. Lastly I live a very happy and stress free life because I managed to have cleared all my debts both school and hospital.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was at night when my phone vibrated and I checked to see what it could be because it was a strange for me. on seeing the message it was GD transfers, I was so delighted because this money will help reduce the burden of debts and other demands in my household.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I had a debt at school for my child which I decide to clear when i received this transfer. Secondly I had to improve my household's well being by purchasing household items like clothes, beddings and utensils. I also had a debt in the hospital which I settled after getting the transfer. Lastly I gave my husband some money to top up with his savings which he used to acquire a motorbike for bodaboda business.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to build an iron roofed house, take care of the education needs of my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the evening when I am seated with other members of the family. I feel we are together.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is inadequacy of money to provide the education needs of my children. I depend on agriculture for a living so raising money to provide for my children's education needs is really a charllage to me. Some times, I have had to sell off part of the harvest in order to raise some money. My husband is a civil serant but his salary is aslo not good enough to sustain the needs of the family.
