How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After using the money from the second transfer to buy goats and the money from the third transfer to plant my farm, my plan is I'll sell what I grow on the farm to pay for my two daughters' university fees. I'm confident that when they finish their school and find jobs, they'll take care of me, and we'll have a good life together.

Previously, we had heard many negative rumors about the GiveDirectly money, but I always saw it in a positive light even before receiving it. For the past 15 years, I've been alone since my husband died in a car crash in Meru County. It was tough taking care of our six kids without him. But when I got the latest money transfer, I decided to do something smart with itI used $180 to rent a piece of land and plant beans. Beans are marketable in our area, so I figured it was a good investment. When you harvest one hectare of beans, you get 6 bags. Each bag sells for $170. What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this money means quality education for my three children in secondary level. Raising their school fees has been an uphill task since I lost the motorcycle that used to give me more money. I have $300 school fees in arrears and considering in two weeks time they will be joining the last academic term of the year an additional $200 is required. I am excited because the transfers will allow me have peace because I shall use to clear school fees and pay for other levies. My children will be able to study comfortably and improve their educational performance.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The rains have been a blessing to us and compared to the last three years there is an increase in the produced I harvested from the farm. I am happy because I got enough food that will sustain my family for another one year.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints is the greatest challenge. I have been rely on motorcycle taxi business to earn a living but three months ago it was stolen. This left me struggling to make ends meets and I resorted to casual jobs which is unreliable.
