How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different than it would have been if I never received my transfers in that, at the moment I have a new and decent kitchen. I spent part of my transfers to buy building materials such as iron sheets which I used to build a new kitchen since the one I had at first was very old and was at the verge of collapsing. As a result, my children were always struggling to get a place to sleep in except to always walk at night in order to spend at my neighbor's compound.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my own thoughts, Give Directly does well in supporting the neediest people thus alleviating poverty in the rural areas where it works. Its model of operation, such as educating the recipients on the phone usage and Mpesa comprehension has greatly reduced cases of Mpesa scam since most of its recipients were able to safeguard their transfers. Among the NGOs I know, GiveDirectly is the most straight forward organization. Personally, I have not seen what GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on paying school fees for my daughter who is currently in form three. I believe that through this, she would have ample time in school to focus on her studies thus succeed in life and become a resourceful citizen. I also bought a cow and four sheep which I am currently keeping as a source of security in case of an emergency. Currently, my cow is heavily pregnant and I am hopeful that very soon, I shall begin to obtain milk hence it will be needless to buy milk for some time.
