How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been if I never received these transfers because I now own a dairy cow which wouldn't have been possible before as we depended on my spouse's income entirely that could only meet the small household needs. This situation forced me to buy milk for my family's consumption and on those days when we could not afford to buy it meant that my children had no option but to have black tea which I felt was a compromise to their health. With this dairy cow, it acts as our alternative source of income. I am able to sell two litters of milk worth 150 KES on a daily basis that cater for our daily meals. Secondly, having purchased a piece of land with the second transfer it is also an honor to me and my family. I really appreciate how GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well through giving unconditional transfers to the needy in my community and the fact that their were no intermediaries all the eligible beneficiaries were fairly selected . Personally, I do not see what GiuveDirectly did wrongly at its work.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the larger part of my second transfer to buy a piece of land. This land is of great assistance since I no longer face the hardship in inadequacy of land to cultivate in. At the moment, I have planted nappier grass as feeds for my livestock. I also bought food and clothes with the remaining amount.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I am a farmer and my happiness is to always see my farming improve since I will have better returns. Even though I practice mixed farming, I love livestock keeping since I get milk daily for both household consumption and sales that earn me an income. I used part of my transfer to buy a dairy cow to add to my herd. I see this as the biggest difference in my daily life since I feel I have added an asset and soon I will earn more from milk sales. I thank GiveDirectly for adding value to my life as I feel I am a step ahead in life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My neighboring village had received their transfers the previous month and they had informed us that the money would probably be sent on a day of the month the same as theirs and so everyone in our village was alert. When I received a message, I checked it believing it was from GiveDirectly and indeed, it indicated that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I became so happy and immediately sent a text message to GiveDirectly's number indicating how grateful I was.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I bought a dairy cow. I settled on this since I will be earning an extra income through milk sales which I will in turn use to meet our daily needs and milk for my household consumption. Also, I bought some chicken as a way of starting a poultry project. I preferred this poultry keeping project since it will help me to improve my daily income through egg sales. I used some amount to buy two sets of chairs, a cupboard to use in keeping my utensils. I am happy that I have my utensils save and house in order unlike before. I took another portion to buy clothes, and foodstuffs for my family.
