How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The urge to venture into farming had just been a dream to me as I have lived to work in people's farms, helping them reap great produce. I am so glad that I am now realizing my dream that would not have ever happened without the transfers I received.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, all I have it to really appreciate the great support I received from GiveDirectly. I have made amazing steps in farming so far both livestock and subsistence. Within the village, everyone is grateful and wishing GiveDirectly the best in their next project with other villages.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the second transfer on leasing a piece of land. I had been hoping over a long time to venture into intensive farming but the inadequate finances could not allow me. I am grateful now that I have leased four acres, bought certified potato seeds, and other farm inputs. With the remaining amount, I spent on buying two goats, and the last bit enabled me to access medical attention as I had not been feeling well.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Alot has changed in my life since I received my first transfers in that I have boosted the stock of my business and I have seen growth in profits. Again, I now have a new breed heifer which I didn't have before and lastly, I got some new furniture in our home which gives us a good place to rest after a tedious day work.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The first payment which I received from GiveDirectly as my initial transfer has enabled me to make a greater step in life. First, I spent KES 20000 on adding more stock for my cereal business. I injected this amount so that I can earn more profit. I then spent another KES 22000 on buying a heifer for rearing. I then bought some furniture at KES 6800, water container at KES 1500 and food at KES 5000

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a business lady who buy and sell maize in the nearest market center, Sigor. I have been planning to take the business to the next level by going to buy maize from the farmer direct. This will allow me to increase profit margin by more than half. Now that Give Directly transfers are here, I will use it increase stock and make bulk purchases that attract discount.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the evening when I am taking supper with my daughter I feel happy because this is the time when I am back from my business and relax. Throughout the day I am very busy due to the nature of my business.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In the year 2014 I became sick and when I was admitted in the hospital, I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure and this was the biggest blow in my health. I became stressed up and I was affected psychologically and it really affected my way of doing things. Also, the little I had for business capital was directed to fund my medications and my business was affected dearly.
