How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Ever since I started receiving my transfers, I have been using most of it to pay for a catering course which I have been undertaking for the last one and half year. This has been my dream but since I only depended on a small income from cloth and shoe business, I was only able to raise enough o meet my needs. With the transfers, I managed to pay for catering course which I am now done with. This is the biggest difference GD transfers has brought into my life.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My plan for the next transfers is to continue to boost my shoe and cloth business. This has been my main source of income and with this opportunity provided by GD, I would like to make good use of it by stabilising my business through the transfers.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on paying for medication for my mother was had been admitted at that time. She had an accident and needed medical attention to save her life. I am glad I had the money at the right time to help in catering for medical bills. IO also used the money to buy her food since she was on a special diet at that time. I honestly do not know how I would have managed to raise the money without GD.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it was in that I have successfully finished a catering course in a college which was fully sponsored using the transfer. I am glad that I have started getting some deals hence able to take care of my needs easily.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to start a poultry rearing project. I have a passion for it and considering the various profits that I will get, I am certain of accomplishing some of my long term goals.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had identified a piece of land that I ended up owning after talking to a friend. After saving for quite some time in our merry-go-round, it was my time to get my share in bulk. I decided to top up with the recent transfer and used it to put up a boutique on the piece of land. I have already started getting something since this area has few people operating the same kind of business. I can never complain. I just finished my catering course which was fully being sponsored using my previous transfers. Being idle was the worst choice that I was going to make. I thank GiveDirectly very much for the support.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that the transfer has enabled me to pay part of my tuition fees in college, and also support my sister in reducing her arrears as well. Were it not for GiveDirectly, then I would be still struggling to pay and reduce my arrears and missing most of my classes when I am searching for money.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
Currently, I do not have any additional goal. I am now looking forward to completing my two-year course in a college as I receive the monthly financial support from GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 3000 of my recent transfer to pay for my college fees. I enrolled in a college and I pay school fees through the support I get from various people, GiveDirectly being a major help since I get a monthly transfer. I also paid for my sister's school fees who is in high school. Though we have not been able to clear the arrears fully, at least it has reduced to a manageable amount, and my happiness is that we can now proceed with our studies comfortably. I spent the remaining KES 1000 to buy enough foodstuffs and in paying for other households needs and expenses

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My goal now that I have started receiving the money is to expand my business. I have now started saving some money which I will use in achieving this. Since this business is my only source of income, I am not financially stable since my business is still at a tender stage. Expanding it will help me get more customers which in turn will earn me more income. With this, I will be able to meet my needs on time and even support my siblings.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly is that I am now an independent person since my business is now doing well. Before GiveDirectly came for enrolment, I used to live with two of my friends since I could not manage to pay the house rent alone and I am now glad since all this is now in the past. Living alone has made me have the privacy I always yearned for.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer to add some stock in my business. For the last month, my business had not been doing well since I had used the money I was getting from it to support my mother who is sick and left nothing to use in boosting the business. Due to this, my daily sales had dropped drastically as my shop was almost empty. Bringing it back to the state it was before would help me earn more income which I can use to cater for my needs and to support my sick mother.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
I was surprised at first the moment I started receiving my money because so many people had come with the promise of giving us a helping hand but none ever fulfilled their promise. I waited for some few minutes thinking that the money would be reversed but I never happened and after inquiring from my group members, I was told that indeed the money was from GiveDirectly and they had no bad motives on us. At that time, I became so happy as I knew that I will be using the transfers to achieve my goals.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I would like to first move out from the place I am currently living and be able to pay my own rent. This is because I currently live with two other people in an area that its inhabitats are gangsters and i am in constant fear of being caught by the authorities for being mistaken to be a gangster and the uncertainties of what will happen to rent payment should one of my roomates leave. Having a business of selling fruits during the day and coffee in the evening guarantees me income that can carter for my food, clothing and household stuff a daily basis.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is daily sustenance because not every day I wake up I am sure of where I will go to work. It's a worry I have everyday since I have no idea if I will be able to get food or my rent contribution for that day in case I dont get a job.
What are your greatest ambitions?
I would like to be my own boss business wise. Owning a couple of successful business that are begin run by me and making all decisions is my top most desire. I would love other people to see me as a role model too in their lives.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
I wake up in the morning ready for my day's hustle that I will have known from the previous day through asking what is available, I then carry out my job and by 4.00 pm I am always free. During my free time, I check out for latest songs online or play football then figure out how to get my dinner and then sleep.
