How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I do not have any new goals for now and I am thankful for the ones that I was able to accomplish. Having had building my dream house has for sure transform my whole life. I have finally been able to shelter under one roof with my family which has been my daily wish. The previous house was small which forced my kids to sleep at my relative's houses. I am so grateful for fulfilling my desire courtesy of GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in all the sectors in my entire region. The fact that the cash transfer was unconditional stood out. This is because each one of them was allowed to choose what to purchase using cash according to our household needs. Also according to me, I do not see any part that the organisation needs a change.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on paying fees of KES 5000 for my three children who are in primary schools. They have been staying home for weeks and I was so worried that they might end up missing the examination. I am so grateful to God for answering my prayer in good time since they were able to sit for the tests with their colleagues. This is a promise that their future wiki is greener. I also bought three goats at KES 13500 which have been serving as assets that I can readily rely on in case of any emergency that might arise. Apart from that, I bought a bed and a mattress at KES 11000. It is now a relief to me because I am sleeping comfortable without any pains that I have been encountering previously when I used to sleep on the floor. Additionally, I bought food for my five family members which took us almost three weeks.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I was at home when I heard my phone ring and on checking it I was met with a pleasant surprise from GiveDirectly. I was suddenly overwhelmed with joy and I called my husband to share the good news with him. He was equally very happy and we got down to planning how to spend the money. We are thus happy for the things that we were later able to do.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is that I have a new house. Th house is two roomed where my children can have their own room and we have our own. This has saved us as a family the embarrassments that came with having our children going to sleep over at our neighbours place.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We used KES 12000 to buy a bee and a mattress and used the remaining amount to build a new house. We were living in a very small single roomed house with our three children and they would have to go sleeping at our neighbours house when night fell. This was particularly embarrassing but we had very little we could do since my husband worked as a casual- a job that would earn us just enough to feed the family. We are so grateful to GiveDirectly for the support that we received and which enabled us to do this.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have three children and the house am living in is like a tent. The rains and sun penetrate inside something that makes us uncomfortable. With this money, I intend to put up a two roomed semi permanent house. By this it will accommodate all the children and a separate room for me and my husband.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have been having some trouble with my husband but last month my husband understood his mistakes and he is now respecting me and providing for us his family. This is something that I was praying a lot for and now it is answered.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In this area we entirely depend on farming as a easy and cheap source of food. But unfortunately the rains come but not enough for the crops to mature. That has caused us to sometimes go without a meal and that is a big challenge for the children.
