How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After accomplishing the goals I had set for the second transfer, I developed another goal that I desire to see it coming to pass. Since I have young children who are still in school I would like to incest any amount of money that I will come across to their education. Seeing them have a good learning environment is my desire.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is a life-uplifting organization that steps in for human beings who are living in poverty. I appreciate GiveDirectly because if it were not for them I would not have gotten the plot nor made my home. As of now, I would be still in a tenant in someone’s house which is an expensive life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the second transfer, the priority was to build my own house to call home which I did. I build the house on a plot that I bought using the first transfer. For quite a long time I have been living in a rental house with my children something that was expensive on my end due to a lack of a defined source of income but I had no alternative. This state made me strain so much. I also paid school fees and other fee arrears for my three primary school children amounting to KES 10000.00. Having done that, I reserved the remaining amount for family use.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was at around 9am when I was just sitting with my grandchildren storytelling when I was informed by my little girl that there was a message in my phone. Being unable to read and right, I requested my daughter to read the message and tell me what it was all about. To my surprise, I was informed that it was the transfer from GiveDirectly. I was very excited and requested both my children and grandchildren not to inform anyone about the money since I was still curious not knowing what will happen next and also how people will react once they discover I had received such huge amount of money; only to realize that it was a celebration in the whole village since everyone who was registered had received their money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before GiveDirectly came to my life, I was an unhappy mother staying at a place where my children cannot call home. My desire was to own my own piece of land and build a home. As at now I am living happily having a place am calling home with a surety that even in my absence, my children will not suffer. Thank you GiveDirectly for you gave me a home.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Initially, we were staying at my husband’s elder brother’s plot. This is because we had no place of our own since my husband was just a casual laborer. On receiving this transfer, my 3 sons who also received their shares and I decided to contribute KES 15000.00 each so that we purchase a plot of land. We purchased 3 acres of land. I also bought 14 pieces of iron sheets for KES 9800.00. I am now constructing a house with the remaining amount and see how far it will take me before receiving the second transfer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means continued education to my children. This is because I am planning to spend $300 of my first transfer to buy 10 goats. As the goats multiple, I will sell them at a profit and use the proceeds for school fees, uniforms, stationery, etc. For the rest of my transfer, I will use it to building a house and purchase 2 mattresses and beds.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After doing my tasks in the morning, I usually get ample time to rest in the afternoon. The resting gives me happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband is a charcoal burner and I am just a housewife. This has been the biggest stumbling block in achieving education for my children because most of the money my husband made on charcoal production ($50 per month) goes into buying food. Therefore financial crisis has been the biggest challenge I have ever faced in my life.
