How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Completing the construction of my house, improving my goat rearing activity, advancing my crop farming by purchasing an ox-plough is what makes my life different that it would have been if I had never received the transfer. I was not imagining of fulfilling these in a very short time without the transfer from GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well for remember the less fortunate in the society by sending them cash transfer. This transfer has brought a lot of development in the society since we received adequate training before the cash was sent to our phones.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I had been desiring to start livestock rearing a reliable source of livelihood for my family since I have nothing to rely on whenever I face any financial crisis. After receiving the transfer I spent it to fulfil my wish by acquiring 4 goats. In addition, I purchase ox-plough which will assist me in preparing my farm to replace the hand work which is tiresome and time consuming. Furthermore, I was able to acquire enough food for the family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I can still remember vividly it was exactly 9 o'clock in the morning when I was taking breakfast then my phone started ringing continuously. This was so unusual and without wasting time, I decided to check and confirmed that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I had finally received the money that I had anxiously been waiting for. I was overexcited for I knew I would finally own a decent house.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own a decent house. I have been married for over twenty years now but I never had the joy of sleeping in a good house. All along I have been sheltering under a small hut with a leaky roof which was so hectic especially when it rains. During the winter seasons, I used to seek shelter from relatives and friends which was at times a burden to them since they also have a family. Therefore sometimes I used to stay at my house till dawn with the cold nights. My children used to be attacked by pneumonia as a result of that. This made me be so hopeless in life. However, all this is now history because GiveDirectly transformed everything in a positive way. Currently, I am sleeping under a decent shelter and I longer have to worry about the harsh climate anymore.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my diets transfer on buying some building materials such as several building poles, iron sheets, nails and timber. This was purposely for the construction of a new house since the previous one was a small hut with a leaky roof. I later bought some beddings which include a spacious bed, mattress and bedsheets. This was to replace the old mats that I have been using as beddings. With the reming amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to finish my house which stopped due to financial problems, it will cost 20,000 shillings to complete everything. In addition, I intend to use 30,000 shillings to buy beds and mattress. The remaining of the amount I will use to start a small shop which will bring income to assist in any financial emergency.
What is the happiest part of your day?
As a farmer, I usually go to the farm early in the morning, It always becomes tedious because I always work in the sunshine. The evening becomes the happiest part of my day, because I feel relaxed and I interact well with my family as well as sharing our meals from the income I got.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial problems are the biggest hardship I have faced in life. As a farmer it is very difficult to afford some important things in my life, this is because I only get 2,000 shillings every month from my job. It is very difficult to complete my house as well as buying a mattress and bed.
