How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life would have not changed were it not for this cash because for one I have my own motorcycle which means that I do not have to work for someone. I have also built a new house which I never had before, so for me that is a plus.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think GD does well by giving cash to the poor to enable them alleviate their lives from one level to the next. For instance, for me I have been able to build a new house and moved away from the old structure where we used to squeeze ourselves with my family. Today I am happy to be living in this spacious building that accommodates us so comfortably.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the cash to buy a motorbike which I have since been using to conduct motorcycle business that has been generating some cash for me. Through the cash I generate from the business, I am able to feed my family much comfortably. I initially use to work for someone where we were forced to share the proceeds on a daily basis but right now I pocket everything, which is a big plus for me.
