Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that am now happy having my own business and believe that all plans that I had in life are coming to pass very soon. When I got the money from GD I started a second hand clothes business which I have seen to be fruitful since I can save some money for use.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months am intending to expand my business so that I can get more income from it. This shall help me improve my living standard and educate my children.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently I can manage to save KES 2500 on weekly basis which has enable me to expand my business and provide for my family. Before I was employed by someone to run his business but my wage wasn't enough to sustain my family. When I started my own business I can enjoy all profit alone which has made me so happy. My family can now eat well and I also get money for paying school fees for my children.
Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My goal is to built a house, before I was planing but my cash wasn't enough to sustain my family alone. Therefore now running my business has enable me to get money for building a house.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life is when my shop got burnt back in 2004. As a result of the fire, I suffered huge losses and since then, I have not been able to start my own business. Over the years, I have been struggling to meet the needs of my family. I am currently working for someone who pays me 200 shillings per day. I have always desired to own my shop but due to lack of capital, I have not achieved my dream
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am with my family. This is the time that I take meals with my family after working hard selling second hand clothes. I am also happy because I feel content that I have fulfilled my obligations as a parent
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
When I receive my transfers, I am planning to use part of the money to start my own business since I usually sell second hand clothes. The funds I get from Givedirectly will be used in buying additional stock. The second part of the money will be used to build a better house for my family.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
My greatest achievement is that I currently work for someone who pays me 200 shillings per day. This is an achievenent because I once owned a shop in 2004 but it got burnt as a result of an electric fault. I could not provide for my family then and my family suffered as a result of lack of funds. I am now able to provide for my family since I am the sole provider.
