How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
We had started building long before GiveDirectly visited our village but with school school fees needed for our children and other engagements we could not continue building for lack of resources. I was able to finally finish building with the help of the transfers and we now live in a beautiful house. We are also proud owners of an heifer.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What I love about GiveDirectly is the kindness the its officers have and how well they taught and responded to all our queries. I am also glad that the recipients were given an opportunity to use the transfer however they wish and our village has really improved development wise.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We were not able to complete building using the first transfer, we were left with afew areas to complete. We therefore used the second transfer to complete the section and did the final finishes and painting with remainder of the transfer. I am glad the house is now complete.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The excitement that morning after receiving my first transfer was immeasurable. After my daughter-in-law confirmed to me that I had received my transfer, I was ready to initiate my plans. I thanked God and Givedirectly for the support that has allowed us to accomplish our plans.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in daily life is the completion of our house which I had paused for a long period due to financial constraints. I am grateful to Givedirectly for giving me a chance to accomplish my pending projects.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving my first transfer, I spent KES 34,700 on completing a house that I had paused for a long period due to financial constraints. The new house has spacious rooms and especially the dining area where we dine with my entire in the evening. With KES 20,000 we bought a heifer. This will provide us milk in the future both for consumption and surplus for sale. I look forward to doing more with my second transfer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We have been constructing our house since 2019, a timber walled and a cemented floor. We have been living in a mud-walled house before, maintaining it has been a problem, we are old and cannot maintain it well in terms of smearing. It is a lot of work.We are almost completing the construction of our new house only that we run out of money. Sometimes last December on a Sunday after a church service, church members came to check on me after I had fallen sick. Before they left, they saw a stalled house and prayed that the next time they visit they will find a completed decent house. I feel this is the manifestation of what they prayed for. I am so happy, God answers prayers. We intend to use all the transfers to finish up the works on it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
We are farmers of little means. Our major problem has been raising school fees for our children. Last December our last born finished university education. It was a momentous time for us and a great celebration. And the burden of paying school fees was lifted off our shoulders. We were so elated.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been having a knee problem for a while now. It started in 2015 and I have been attending treatment in the nearby Chebunyo Dispensary. I am economically inactive since I cannot stand for long to do farming. Walking is also a challenge, this is worsened by the fact that I have a lot of weight of about 90 kilograms and so my weak lower limbs cannot support it for a long time.
