How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My focus in the coming years and beyond is to on expanding my poultry-keeping business, I am sure that doing this will generate income that will help me to renovate my house which looks very old due to corroded iron sheets, painting it will be a good idea. Also doing more farming like planting maize will eventually result in a more supply of food in my household and life will be enjoyable hoping for better than these.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
One thing that GiveDirectly has done perfectly is make people realize their dreams. personally, my life has truly changed, with my first transfer I purchased a water tank, and the second one I paid my children's school fees as well as opening a poultry-keeping business. To GiveDirectly may you never lack, you lifted my life from nowhere to somewhere. My since appreciation because you promised us the unconditional cash and you finally fulfilled the promise. My wish if the organization will add us more funds so that we can continue improving our living standards.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Receiving the transfer came at the right time of need and was the most significant blessing I encountered, i have witnessed the most significant transformation in my family well well-being, with the $550 I received, I directed $400 to pay school fees for my two children who are both in university. The struggle to meet this fee had been constant since I was using my husband's retirement benefits which sometimes delayed making my children not to attend their classes at the right time, now am very happy knowing that I had paid their fees for the whole semester. Another part of the funds $150, i decided to do poultry keeping ending up purchasing 20 chickens each for $3, my objective is to expand my poultry business which will contribute to increased income and greater financial stability. however, poultry keeping is very easy to maintain especially for a person like me who is always at home managing my small garden of vegetables, so combining the two agri-business will be a great achievement. I am sincerely grateful to GiveDirectly for elevating my living standard.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I can still recall very well that I received the Mpesa message from GiveDirectly at around 3 in the afternoon when I was coming back from church. After realizing that I had received the cash, an overwhelming sense of happiness flooded over me. It was a moment of sheer relief and gratitude, as I knew that this unexpected financial support would finally enable me to pay for my children's university fees. It had been an enduring struggle for both my husband and I, and this unconditional cash transfer from GiveDirectly was nothing short of a miracle that would shape our children's future in the most profound way.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Receiving unconditional cash transfers from GiveDirectly has been a transformative experience in my life. The most significant change I've witnessed since these transfers began is the transformation in my children's education and future prospects. Before, we struggled to make ends meet, and providing a quality education for my children seemed like an impossible dream. But with the financial support we received, my two children are now not only in school but also thriving academically. They are on the verge of obtaining their degrees, and I can't help but feel immense pride and gratitude for the opportunity these cash transfers have provided them. I'm filled with anticipation for the day when my children graduate, knowing that they will have the tools to shape their own destinies, create better lives, and give back to their community. Thanks to GiveDirectly, the future has never looked brighter for my family, and we owe it all to the unconditional cash transfers that have truly transformed our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Allocating my recent unconditional cash transfer has been a tremendous relief for my family. With $200, I was able to settle the university fees for my two children. One is pursuing a bachelor's degree in ICT, and the other is studying education. They are my sole hope for a brighter future, but the high cost of living has made it increasingly difficult to support their education. At times, I feared they might have to drop out due to the daunting tuition fees. However, this financial assistance came just in time, ensuring they could continue their studies without interruption. I also paid a tithe of $50 at the church, giving thanks to God for this unexpected financial relief. My faith has always been a source of strength for me, and I believe in giving back when blessings come our way. Looking forward, I plan to use the remaining $300 to boost my poultry farming business. With a family of three still under my care, including my husband and I, we are getting older, and our ability to work is diminishing. So, we increasingly rely on our other children to support us. This investment will not only provide for our daily needs but also contribute to our children's financial stability as they continue their education and eventually start their own families

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Life in our area can be so good once one is engaged in an income-generating activity. I find this to be possible if I spend my transfers wisely. I plan to spend this money on livestock keeping, more so goats that multiply fast, and also to do poultry farming. To start with, I intend to spend $600 of my money on these projects. These will be my reliable sources of income to support the needs of my family since they have high profits. On the other hand, I will spend the remaining amount to support my children's education who are currently in college. Therefore, this is generally what receiving this money means to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
One thing that I consider my greatest source of joy is the fact that our area is now changing for the better. After the arrival of GiveDirectly in our area, people's lives have changed and their social status is on another level. This alone makes me feel so happy as a community member to see them possessing very basic items like a mattress. In addition, I am so happy for the rains that we have received. We are now going to harvest food that will cushion us for the next 6 months. What a life to be proud of!
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is generally what I consider to be the biggest hardship in my life and this has exposed me to a life that I never expected, a very tough life! My husband was a civil servant but he retired 7 years ago and his pension is no longer enough to cater to our needs. Currently, we have 2 children who are still in college and these have drained us financially. At the moment, we depend most on farming but due to the drought in our area, this has never been reliable. What a life!
