Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
Currently, I am looking forward to raising tree seedlings. The money which I will be receiving as my next transfers I would spend on buying materials for raising the seedlings. Due to government push on environmental conservation in the recent past, I saw a great opportunity which would enable me to raise money for spending back at school. I intend to set up a nursery where I would raise various tree seedling so that I would plant some and sell some to my neighbours. The income which I would earn from this I would be spending on paying for my accommodation back at school as I am studying on the school-based programme.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
In July of this year, we got to buy a water tank. I together with my brother and mother we put together our cash transfers and spent on buying a water tank. We had no proper water storage for drinking water which would for my mother to travel for long distance to fetch water from a nearby stream more often. This was a tedious task for her and we opted to make her work easier so that she would have time for other household chores. I am now happy that she can now rest as she can have water right at the doorstep.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next few months, I will be going back to school and receiving this transfer would enable me to pay for my accommodation. Again, the crops which I had managed to plant with part of the transfer from Give Directly will be ready for harvesting. This would enable me to raise money for paying for my school accommodation fees and also buy a sheep for rearing. Having a sheep will be a great achievement as this would enable me to have more livestock in future as it reproduces.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
I currently have some beans that I planted with the help of the monthly transfers I usually get from Give Directly. I have always wanted to invest in farming but the little money I get from the job as a teacher is barely enough to pay my school fees, buy food and other basic utilities. The biggest difference that I feel is the fact that I managed to start farming which has always been my desire, without affecting the payment of fees and other basic needs. I am happy that in less than three months, I would get some good return from the sale of these crops.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My next goal is to buy and rear sheep so that when they multiply I will resell and use the proceeds thereof to buy my own cow. As a young adult, I am planning to start a family soon. Having this livestock will help me later during the payment of dowry and also as a source of milk for my family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
Over the past few months, we have experienced a food shortage in our locality. This was as a result of a bad harvest brought about by a strange disease which attacked our crops. Because of this, we have been forced to buy food to the extent that we had exhausted the little savings that we had after depleting the little food that we had in store. Give Directly came in handy with the monthly transfers that we get because this is what has been helping us buy food for my family.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I am expected to sit for my final exams in the next six months. My expectation, therefore, is that before then, I have all the requirements needed to sit for this exam such as ensuring that I have completed paying the school fees required and other requirements. It is my prayer that after the last exam, I will graduate and secure a better job now that I will be better qualified. This will be one step toward my desire of being financially stable.

I started receiving these transfers when I had just joined college. Getting enough money to gather for both school fees and pocket money would have been a hard task for me and my parents. Life has been different from the time I started receiving these transfers. I use all my transfers to pay rent while my parents struggle to pay school fees. It has made my studies more simple and quite interesting.
