What does receiving this money mean to you?
"If I'm qualified to receive money from GiveDirectly, I would build another house because this is a thatched house. It's not guaranteed and long-lasting. Therefore, I'll construct a zinc house cement if the cash transfer is enough and if not, I'll just build a mud-brick house. Again, if there's still portion of the transfer left after constructing my second house, I'll invest it into buying and raising cattles."
What is the happiest part of your day?
"There has not been any sort of good news for my family in recent times and for a very long time too. There's nothing particular that I'm grateful for because of the current challenges I'm being faced with. For one fact, I'm struggling with enrolling my children to school. They're staying with their aunt because of finacial challenges and also because of the distance it takes them to where their school is located. My family and myself hardly have enough food to eat everyday because what is generated from the farm is insufficient to sell due to the constant visits of the ground hugs."
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
"Money is a serious issue for my family! We're struggling with sending all our six children in school. Because of low income, the kids staying with my sister. Due to this same reason, I've been unable to construct a decent house since I built this mud-thatched house in 2010. I'm also being challenged with my farm because what I'm supposed to generate can not be achieved due to the ground hugs constantly eating the crops!"
