How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Without GiveDireclty. I may never have afforded to buys a dairy cow. The milk that I need for household consumption is so much per day. It is expansive to always keep buying them. This changed when I acquired a dairy cow using part of the transfer. I have made my daily life live easier since I get milk for the household without having to spend, money to buy it but instead sell part of it to get money for other foodstuffs. My life has greatly improved.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDireclty did well by giving us this aid to all households in my village. This was a lot of money to boosted the economy of everyone surrounding me. I am glad that I now have income-generating livestock.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money I received on I bought a dairy cow at Kes 35000. I have been getting milk for household consumption from the cow. Additionally, I get an income from selling part of the milk to get

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life has greatly changed since I received my first transfer. I practice mixed farming to earn a living and support my family. It is always my wish to improve this to enable me to earn more income to meet the ever-rising family needs. Expanding my farming has been a dream that would not have been realized if it was not for GiveDitrectly. Before GiveDirectly came for enrolment, I used to stay at home most of the time so that I would be looking after my livestock and poultry so that it would not invade my crops. This was tiring and a waste of time that I could have spent in other areas. Being able to fence my compound is the biggest difference in my daily life. Due to this, I can always go anywhere without worrying that my chicken and livestock will destroy my crops.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning as I was waking up when I received a message alert on my phone. Upon reading its contents, I became so grateful to GiveDirectly for uplifting my life. I was so happy that day and I decided to call my spouse and inform him about the good news.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer on my homestead improvement. I used it to buy a barbed wire, poles and wire mesh to use in fencing my compound. I settled on this so that my livestock and chicken will not be moving to the farm to destroy our crops. Also, I used some amount to buy a dairy cow as a way of expanding my dairy farming project. I will be using the income from milk sales to pay school fees for my children. I feel that my farming has been uplifted thus I expect better returns and products from my farm. I spent the remaining amount to buy food and clothes for my family to add to the few that we had.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Our first born son is turning 14 years old and according to our culture,he needs a separate house given that he has grown old enough.I have therefore made a priority building a house for him. This will cost me approximately 25,000 Kenya shillings. For the rest of the transfer I will invest in livestock farming.I spend most of the time at home and therefore I will get ample time looking after the cattle. I will buy 5 sheep and 1 dairy cow.Livestock multiply very fast especially sheep and therefore it is a good investment that will help me pay school fees and satisfy other needs. The cow on the other side will provide milk for sale which is a good source of income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend time in my farm from morning till noon.In the afternoon I look after my cattle. Those are the major duties that I do everyday and when it is evening I am usually very tired.I therefore enjoy my evenings when I am done with the day's activities and the relax mood is on.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I dropped out of school in form 1 due to lack of school fees. This was so discouraging to me since I had just joined secondary school.Due to frustration I decided to get married and at an early age of 16 I had my first child.I believe that if I had continued with my studies I could be employed.Lack of employment has made me fully depended on my husband and therefore cannot support him during tough economic times.Dropping out of school and getting married early has denied me alot in life.
