How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to add stock to my maize business I started with my second transfer.I am happy that I have realized a great profit margin which gives me motivation to work.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Givedirectly did well by uplifting all households in my village from newly constructed houses, dairy cows, water tanks and many others which gave our village a face lift.No complain since everything was delivered as promised.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend Kshs 5,000 of the second transfer in paying of school fees and purchasing of uniforms for my two primary school going children. This gave them peace of mind and also studied without being sent home to collect the money.Being a single mother of two, with no stable source of income I chose to start business of selling maize. With Kshs.25,000 I bought five sacs for a start which did extremely well and I currently sell more hence more profits. With the remaining amount, I bought food and clothes for my household members.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt so happy. I remember it was around 8am. When I heard a ringtone message from my phone. That momet we were taking breakfast. I reluctantly check it thinking it was just a usually messages from friends. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I have never received such amount of money before. I immediately inform my family members and we all celebrated with joy. I went and withdrew the money the same day. I planned on starting the business so that I can be able to get profits to support my family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I was spending KES 60 per day. I depend on casual jobs in the village and sometimes to get this jobs is so hard. This jobs also is not well paying, due to recurrent needs at home I would spent all the money the same day. I had no extra source of income. When I received the money from GiveDirectly I found it wise to invest to purchase a Dairy cow. Currently I no longer buy milk because I have a dairy cow. My children get enough milk to drink and sometimes I sell the surplus to earn an income to meet other basic household needs. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard. I have devoted much of my time on this amazing dairy project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 30,000 to purchase a Dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly. I am able to saved the money that I could have used to buy milk to spend on other household items. I paid school fees for my children in primary school.I started a business of selling maize. Currently I have enough stock to run my business so well. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will buy a dairy cow that will assist me in very many ways as a source of income. I will be selling the milk to buy food for the household and to educate my children. I pay kes 300 per term and yet I cannot early afford it from my casual jobs where I earn an average of Kes 200 per day. Out of this, I spent about Kes 200 per day on food stuffs ,leaving nothing for my child's school fees. I plan to buy a dairy cow at Kes 50,000. I will then spent rest of money on home improvement. I will buy a water tank and furniture.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I rejoin my family after working on people's farms. I usually buy foodstuffs frommy hard earned cash and prepare meals for the children. Shairing food with them makes me happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life is to provide food and education for my family. I have two children that I have to raise single handedly. Being that I rely on casual jobs, which are hard to find, I have to struggle and even start a small business to help me with this in the near future.
